BREAKING NEWS: Billingsley sent packing for home games by Autauga BOE

BILLINGSLEY -There were just two weeks remaining until the 2017 season opener and the Billingsley Bears found a quarterback, a running game and the pieces of an offensive and defensive line puzzle that could possibly transform the Bears into a playoff team.

Now, the only thing missing is a football stadium.

On Friday, school officials were informed that Mims Field, the site of some of Billingsley High’s greatest triumphs, including a win over Parrish for the 1992 state championship, is unsafe and cannot be used for the 2017 football season.

Three area teams came agonizingly close to capturing a state championship at the annual Alabama High School Athletic Association state softball tournament, led by appearances in the state finals by LAMP and Billingsley.

Turk, Dunigan named Players of the Week

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of Sept. 18.

Jake Turk from Trinity Presbyterian School is the Private School Player of the Week and Derrick Dunigan from Billingsley High School is the Public School Player of the Week.

The 7A final is set with Prattville and Hoover ready to tangle on Wednesday. Now, the rest of the dance card is to be decided in the other six classes on Friday.

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of Nov. 1. Thomas Nichols from Billingsley High School is the Public School Player of the Week and Frank Moody from St. James School is the Private School Player of the Week.
