PRATTVILLE -- Prattville High offensive lineman Daniel Carter became the seventh Lion to win the Willis Bradford Christian Leadership Award at the 31st annual Prattville YMCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes Awards Banquet at the First United Methodist Church on Monday evening.

Prattville forfeits lone victory

Prattville's unusually horrific season suddenly got a little worse on Monday.

According to a release from the AHSAA, Prattville has been fined, placed on probation for one year and ordered to forfeit the lone varsity football victory for violating AHSAA eligibility rules.

Harbaugh to return for the Prattville football camp

Jim Harbaugh is returning to Prattville.

After a successful (and somewhat controversial) trip to Alabama last summer, the head football coach at Michigan is returning on June 7 for the Autauga Education Foundation Youth Football Camp to be held at Prattville High School.

PRATTVILLE – We all knew for a while this day was coming, but it didn’t make the funeral of Kevin Turner any easier.

What did make it uplifting, almost inspiring, is that everyone likes to turn a sad event into a “celebration of life.” Turner, along with his family and friends, was able to do that.

And the approximately 500 people who crammed into the Easter Sunday service at Hunter Hills Church of Christ came from all walks of life because Turner touched just about everyone he came into contact with.

Tallassee takes down Dadeville; Prattville stops Carver

TALLASSEE – There was a simple reason why Tallassee rebounded from last week’s disappointing loss to Central-Clay with a better effort on Friday night at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium.

“We came in with enthusiasm,” junior linebacker Nick Talley said. “It was Dadeville. We were going to try our best against Dadeville because they’re our rivals. So we went out and tried our best and came out with a win.”

Harbaugh invitation to Prattville Elite Camp brings unexpected attention

The football world will have eyes on Prattville High School this Friday.

But it has nothing to do with the Lions or their preparations to make it back to the Super 7 in 2015.

The annual Prattville Elite Football Camp will feature the usual number of top players from across the River Region but also a polarizing figure in the world of college football.

New Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh and members of his staff will be in town to lead the camp on Friday. The camp, which is open to any football player ages 14-18, is expected to draw a record number of participants.

Frank Moody from St. James is the Private School Player of the Week and Kamryn Pettway from Prattville High School is the Public School Player of the Week. The G.W. Carver Wolverines took advantage of four turnovers and earned a 20-7 victory over Prattville in the season opener for both teams Friday at Cramton Bowl.

The Carver defense proved to be stingy for most of the night. Senior linebacker Shaun Hamilton blocked a punt and forced a fumble to set up a touchdown for the Wolverines, who defeated the Lions for the second-straight year.

The Prattville Lions (19-11) are one of several teams from the River Region that will open play in the Alabama High School Athletic Association state playoffs Friday. The first round will feature Best-of-3 series.

Four teams from the area earned first-round home games, including Prattville, which won the Class 6A, Area 5 title. The Lions will play Northview in a doubleheader on Friday.

When Alabama Christian Academy coach Don Gilliam learned that the Eaglesí quarterfinal-round Class 4A series against Bibb County would be pushed back a few days, he did what most coaches would do in the situation.

Schedule a practice game.

Baseball teams will be back in action on Tuesday for the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs, which were interrupted by a scare from the Swine Flu epidemic that has threatened the state.
