Lowndes Academy has memorable season for good and bad reasons

The 2016 season was already considered a special one for Lowndes Academy as the school celebrated its 50th season of football.

Little did the coaches and players know in early August that 2016 would be a memorable season none of the participants would ever forget.

Macon East- Lowndes canceled after players injured in auto accident

The season-opening game between Macon-East Academy and Lowndes Academy has been canceled after four Lowndes players were injured in an automobile accident on the way to practice Thursday.

Marbury's Palmer, LA's Reid top players named by QB Club

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of Aug. 28. KJ Palmer from Marbury High School is the Public School Player of the Week and Brandon Reid from Lowndes Academy is the Private School Player of the Week.

PREP PRESEASON: New Lowndes coach creates 'bonding' time in first week

Bob Taylor was thinking about chemistry when he loaded up the bus and headed west on U.S. Highway 80.

The first-year Lowndes Academy football coach was hired in June to revive the Rebels’ football fortunes after four straight years of losing. The first step, figured the coach known for rebuilding programs at Lakeside and Sumter, was to get his players away from family and friends and learn the meaning of team.

AISA Tourney recap: Evangel girls, Edgewood boys advance to finals

Charli Parker knew it was coming. She tried to prepare her Pickens Academy girls basketball team for Evangel Christian’s pressure defense, but eight minutes of adjustments proved to be too much to overcome.... Edgewood senior Josh Crawford scored nine of his 11 points in the final 3:29, lifting the Wildcats past the Longhorns 55-49 in the Alabama Independent School Association Class AA state tournament Wednesday.

PREP SCHEDULES 2014: AISA at a glance

Believe it or not, high school football teams begin practicing this week. Teams in the Alabama Independent School Association can take the field in shorts and helmets on Thursday to begin preparations for the 2014 season.

Which means it's time for the annual schedule rehearsal for River Region teams.
