Connor Davis was hitting everything. Fastballs, curveballs, even opposing batters.

The Macon East Academy ace wasn’t at his best on the mound, hitting five opposing batters with pitches, but more than made up for it at the plate by scoring a run and driving in four more in the first game and scoring two more runs in the second game as the Knights swept Clarke Prep 8-4 and 6-0 in the Alabama Independent School Association Class AA state baseball championship at Paterson Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Autauga Academy coach Jeremy Deloach went over the normal strategy with sophomore Karsyn Kemsel in the bottom of the seventh inning, telling her to make sure to only swing at “her pitch.”

It wasn’t what Kemsel wanted, but she swung anyway, giving the Generals a stunning 10-9 victory over Macon East Academy and the Class AA championship in the Alabama Independent School Association state softball tournament at Lagoon Park Softball Complex.

CECIL – When you’re playing a lower-seeded team in a best-of-three playoff series at home, your hopes of cruising into the next round can sometimes get derailed by a good pitching performance.

That was the obstacle facing the Macon East Academy Knights, who never figured out Drew Parker in a 2-1 loss that left the Knights facing the possibility of ending their season on Thursday evening.

CECIL - It was the championship game of the AISA Class AA Region 1 tournament, but it could just as easily be a preview of the weekend’s Class AA state championship game at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex.

Macon East Academy improved to 30-0 with a 66-53 win over Autauga in the Macon East gym, their second hard-fought win over the Generals this season.

The Kyle Edwards’ underhanded flips were special, the Artavious Billups’ pullup jumpers were impressive and the Slate Garmany shots from across the street were crowd pleasing, but none of that was the underlying reason for the 70-42 rout of Autauga Academy that gave Macon East Academy an undefeated season and the AISA Class AA state championship.

CECIL – This weekend's AISA Regional Tournament at Macon East Academy may look like window dressing for the Knights.

But don't tell veteran coach Larry Chapman. This team has work to do if it is to win a state title in two weeks.

HS VOLLEYBALL: Coaching changes fail to slow down Macon East quest for another title

(October 19, 2016)

CECIL - When you’re the five-time defending state champion, your head coaching position should be a coveted one.

But as Macon-East Academy continues its drive for a sixth straight AISA volleyball championship, it does so with its third coach. Actually, four if you count the fact that Codi Moon and Dragana Cvoric are co-coaches.

Although teams in the Alabama Independent School Association can officially begin football practice on Thursday, it is somewhat anticlimactic.

With summer practice being more liberal than in the past and more teams involved in team camps, preseason workouts may need a name change.

Macon East won its fifth consecutive Alabama Independent School Association state softball championship on Saturday afternoon but it took every pitch from Paxton Searle to accomplish the feat as the Knights earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Pickens Academy.

Macon East (59-10) won the Class AA tournament with a pair of one-run victories over Pickens to highlight the annual event at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park Softball Complex.

Edgewood does it again with seventh straight title

A new day brought a different attitude and another state championship for Edgewood Academy.

The Wildcats, by all accounts, should have been swept on Tuesday by Macon-East Montgomery Academy after managing just one hit in the first game and three in the second. Somehow, they found a way to win the second game 2-0 to force a third game in the best-of-three Alabama Independent School Association Class AA baseball finals at Paterson Field.

Solid pitching forces Macon East-Edgewood series to third game

After 14 innings of stellar pitching performances, neither Edgewood Academy nor Macon-East Montgomery were able to settle which team was the best in Alabama Independent School Association’s Class AA, so the two teams will go back out on Wednesday afternoon and play for seven more innings.

Logan Coleman pitched a gem in the opener to give the Knights a 3-2 victory before Hunter Elliott came back in the second game with a three-hit shutout and a 2-0 win for the six-time defending state champions.

Macon-East Montgomery Academy and Edgewood Academy split their two regular-season meetings this season, giving little indication of what to expect from the Alabama Independent School Association state baseball finals that start today at Paterson Field.

Edgewood (35-7), winners of six consecutive AISA baseball state championships, won the most recent meeting 12-0 after holding the Knights to two hits.

Macon-East Montgomery (34-9), dropping down from Class AAA to AA this season, won the early-season matchup 5-4 as ace Chapman Dean had both the win and the loss in the two meetings.

CECIL - Head coach Glynn Lott admitted that he made a mistake.

With the spread offense all the rage, he gave it a shot last season.

“It was a disaster,” Lott said. “Truth is, I probably would have been OK with it but I wasn’t comfortable with it. In the first two games, we did fine but I didn’t understand the adjustments.”
