Huntingdon to play host to new showcase for prep basketball

Keegan Bell has only been in town four months but he’s already gauged the potential of basketball in the central Alabama area.

Bell joined the teaching ranks at the Alabama Basketball Academy in Huntsville four years ago and has started a branch in Montgomery to help train the area’s future basketball stars.

Kimbrough named associate head coach to replace Hawks' Pugh in 2017

Huntingdon athletic director Mike Turk announced the hiring of Caleb Kimbrough as associate head men’s basketball coach on Thursday.

Kimbrough will assist retiring head coach Mike Pugh during the upcoming 2016-17 season before taking over as head coach entering the 2017-18 season.

Huntingdon senior Anthony White soaked in the moment, let the realization sink in and tried to put the Hawks’ first playoff win in perspective.

Just minutes after the Hawks knocked off Hendrix 38-27 on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, White and his teammates were enjoying another milestone accomplishment.

Huntingdon women’s basketball coach Buzz Phillips had a good feeling when the Lady Hawks took the court Saturday.

Hosting Agnes Scott in a key Great South Athletic Conference battle, Phillips could tell his team was ready for the challenge. Huntingdon scored the first 11 points of the game and rolled to a 69-45 win.
