LAMP, Prattville clinch area titles

Combined Reports
(April 11, 2012)

Heath Young’s dribbler to second scored Casey Richardson with the winning run and gave LAMP a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over Trinity Presbyterian on Tuesday at Paterson Field.

The win clinched the Class 3A, Area 4 title for the Golden Tigers (18-12, 5-0). LAMP will play at home in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs on April 20 against either Dale County or Slocomb. Trinity, the area runner up, will travel in the first round.

The winning run came with one out against Trinity starter Tatum Dean. Trailing 5-4, the Tigers got lead-off singles from Daniel Johnson and C.J. Sauce. Chris Dunn moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt, setting up Young’s grounder. Earlier in Young’s at-bat, Johnson scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Trailing 4-2 in the top of the seventh, Trinity (18-10, 3-2) scored three runs and took the lead on a bases-loaded, two-out single by Chas Mitchell.

LAMP scored four runs in the third inning on just two hits. Trinity scored single runs in the second and sixth innings.

Garrett Deloney pitched six strong innings for the Tigers, giving up six hits. He struck out eight and walked two. Dunn got the win in relief recording the final out in the seventh.

Dean gave up three earned runs in the loss.

The two teams will play again on Thursday at Trinity at 3 p.m.
