Hawthorne, Crenshaw named QB Club Players of the Week

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of Aug. 30.

Wetumpka’s Charlie Crenshaw is the Public School Player of the Week and Taylor Hawthorne from Edgewood Academy is the Private School Player of the Week. Both players will be honored at the Club’s next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Jay Jacobs, Director of Athletics at Auburn University, will be the featured speaker.

Crenshaw, a senior running back/wide receiver, rushed for 146 yards on 16 carries and 1 touchdown in Wetumpka’s 34-7 win over Robert E. Lee. Crenshaw also had 3 receptions for 40 yards and 1 touchdown.

Wetumpka, coached by Tim Perry, is 1-0 on the season and travels to Oak Mountain on Friday.

Hawthorne, a senior quarterback, passed for 264 yards and a touchdown in Edgewood’s 49-18 win over Evangel Christian. Hawthorne also rushed for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Edgewood Academy, coached by Bobby Carr, is 2-0 on the season and hosts Springwood on Friday.

The Montgomery Quarterback Club meets at the Montgomery Country Club on Narrow Lane Road. The social hour begins at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7:00. Guests are welcome at Quarterback Club meetings but guests must make and advance reservation and pay $30 at the door. The Quarterback Club is still accepting memberships for the 2013 season.
