Croyle to speak at final QB Club meeting

The Montgomery Quarterback Club will hold its Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday. John Croyle will be the featured speaker. Croyle is the founder of The Big Oak Ranch and a former University of Alabama football star. The meeting will be held at the Montgomery Country Club on Narrow Lane Road with the social hour beginning at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7.

The Quarterback Club will present the Dr. Jim Maloy Coach of the Year Award to Coach Anthony McCall from Montgomery Academy. The award is given annually to a River Region football coach "who demonstrates success on the field and an encouragement of sportsmanship, academics, and a positive influence for the pursuit of excellence in all areas of their student athlete’s life.” The Award is named in memory of Dr. Jim Maloy, a former head coach of the Club. Previous winner of the award are: Randy Ragsdale, Al Pogue, Bobby Carr, Chad Anderson, Jamey DuBose, and Mike Battles.

The Club will present its Public School Player of the Year Award to Charlie Crenshaw from Wetumpka High School. Crenshaw, a senior running back/receiver, rushed for 1419 yards and 19 touchdowns and had 353 yards in pass receptions. Overall, Crenshaw had 2004 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns. Wetumpka went 7-5 on the season under Coach Tim Perry.

The Club will present its Private School Player of the Year Award to Josh Thomas from Montgomery Academy. Thomas, a junior quarterback, passed for 1398 yards and rushed for 1540 yards. Thomas had 33 touchdowns for the season. Montgomery Academy went 11-2 on the season under Coach Anthony McCall.

The Club will also present its annual George Bradford Award to one of its members for going above and beyond the call of duty during the past season. The winner of the Award is announced at the Awards Banquet. The Award is named in honor of Dr. George Bradford, a former head coach of the Club. The Club will also present its slate of officers for the 2014 season to the membership at the meeting.

The Montgomery Quarterback Club was established in 1941 and supports high school football in the River Region of Elmore, Autauga, Lowndes, and Montgomery counties.

The Quarterback Club welcomes guests to the Awards Banquet. Guests must make an advance reservation by Tuesday at noon by emailing the Club at mgmqbc@aol.com or by calling Ben McNeill at 303-3166. Guests pay $30 at the door.
