Charles Henderson High School and former Prattville head football coach Jamey DuBose has been named head coach of the Alabama squad for the upcoming 2014 Alabama-Mississippi Football All-Star Game scheduled at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl next December announced Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.

Briggs also announced the other members of the 2014 All-Star staff that includes Tim Carter, Auburn; Shawn Raney, Spain Park; Chris Wilson, Washington County; Patrick Plott, Pickens County; Keith Ethredge, Leeds; and Scott Basden, Muscle Shoals.

“We think we have assembled an outstanding staff,” Briggs said. “Coach CuBose is well respected among his coaching peers. The staff is an experienced one that should blend well together.”

DuBose, who was named head coach at Charles Henderson after last season, served as head coach at Florence in 2012 and 2013 and compiled a 16-8 record. Last season his team was 9-4, reaching the third round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

He was head coach at Prattville from 2008-11 with a 45-12 record and state 6A titles in 2008 and 2011 and a runner-up finish in 2009. He also was an assistant coach for the Lions from 2004-07 helping Prattville win state titles 2006 and 2007. He also served coach for two seasons at Susan Moore and is 71-29 overall in eight seasons as a head coach.

DuBose, considered one of the top offensive coaches in the state, also was an assistant coach at Ashville, Eufaula, Alma Bryant, Gadsden and Spain Park.

“As a football coach, this is one of the greatest honors I think we can receive,” DuBose said. “Just knowing they have enough confidence in me is rewarding in itself.”

DuBose coached in the Alabama-Mississippi Classic twice, the first in 2009 and again last year. Alabama won both games, including a 21-17 win last December with Central-Phenix City Coach Woodrow Lowe at the helm and DuBose serving as offensive coordinator.

“The state of Alabama takes a lot of pride in its high school football,” DuBose said. “This game is about so much more, though. It is about the relationships and bond the players and coaches develop during that week. I also learned something valuable that I think made me a better coach each time I coached in this game before.”

Carter led Auburn to the Class 6A state finals season for the first time in school history. Basden (125-48), who won a state title at Cordova in 2007, led Muscle Shoals a 13-2 record and the state 5A finals in 2013. Plott (76-24) directed Pickens County to a perfect 15-0 season and the 1A state crown last season.

Wilson (44-11) has directed Washington County for four seasons, including two straight Class 2A championship game appearances in 2012 and 2013. Ethredge is 80-31 in nine seasons at Leeds, including 15-0 seasons and 3A state titles in 2008 and 2010. His team finished second last season. Raney led Spain Park to an 8-3 record and a region title in his first season as head coach in 2013.
