Troy opens fall practice

TROY, Ala. - The Troy football team opened fall camp on Thursday morning with a three-hour session on the practice fields adjacent to Veterans Memorial Stadium and Trojan Arena. The coaches worked the players in a number of different facets in preparation for the 2014 season, which is now just 30 days away.

"It looked like the guys were ready to go on day one,” head coach Larry Blakeney said. “The coaches and players were all working hard and it made for a good looking practice. Of course, it’s easier to see offensive guys make plays because that’s what they’re supposed to do, but I saw some good things from all phases of the game.”

The team worked mostly in 1-on-1 sets to get a feel for where each player is heading into the season, but added several team drills to close practice.

Troy is looking to build off of a 6-6 campaign in 2013 and return to the top of the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans are just three seasons removed from a run of five straight Sun Belt titles.

Troy opens the 2014 season on August 30 against UAB at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. The game will be broadcast live on Fox College Sports and will kick off at 11 a.m. Troy’s home opener is set for September 6 when Duke visits Veterans Memorial Stadium for a 6 p.m. game on ESPN3.

Season tickets for Troy’s six home games are available and can be purchased by calling the Troy ticket office at 1-877-878-WINS, by logging on to TroyTrojans.com or by visiting the Tine Davis Fieldhouse. Single-game tickets are also available.

Troy will host Fan Day and Football Appreciation Night on August 16 at Trojan Arena. Fan Day, which gives fans a chance to meet coaches and players from football, volleyball, soccer, cross country and cheerleaders, will begin at 1 p.m.

Football Appreciation Night will be held on Saturday evening. Fans can purchase tickets for just $125; each ticket admits two people.
