Five Lions sign football scholarships

PRATTVILLE - Five Prattville High School senior football players recently signed grant-in-aid scholarships during a ceremony at the school’s library.

The signing included punter William Johnston; defensive lineman Anthony Brown; athlete Christian Mays; defensive lineman Nate Anderson; defensive lineman Harrison McDaniel.

Johnston signed with Faulkner University after averaging nearly 39 yards per kick on 48 punts.

Brown also signed with Faulkner.  He had 31 solo tackles, 19 assists and seven tackles for loss, had six sacks for 38 yards and 10 QB hurries.

Mays transferred to Prattville after his former school, St. Jude Catholic closed after the 2013-14 school year.  He signed with Miles College in Birmingham.  He rushed for 658 yards on 86 trips for 7.6 average.  He grabbed eight aerials for 82 yards with his longest 21-yards.

Anderson signed with New Mexico Military.  He had 32 solo tackles with 13 assists, for tackles for loss, and two sacks.

McDaniel offensive lineman signed with Jacksonville State University.  McDaniel graded out consistently in the high 80s.

With the five players signing grant-in-aid scholarship offers that brought the total of 12 to sign from the Class 7A runner up.

Those who signed in February were – Keith Washington, QB to the University of Michigan; Kenny Thomas, offensive lineman to the University of Louisville; Seth Knotts, and Keegan Smith, both wide receivers, to the University of West Alabama; Ricky Franklin, linebacker to Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College; Austin Aaron, defensive lineman to Birmingham Southern College; Donovan Boone, wide receiver to Huntingdon College.
