Several Huntingdon College football players recently were named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame’s Hampshire Honor Society.

Defensive lineman Hunter Booth, H-Back John Dunn, receiver Nick Haas, defensive lineman William Harris, running back John Iwaniec, H-Back Brandon Mattox, quarterback Buck Robinson, linebacker Lake Romine, offensive lineman Jordan Shelby, defensive back Jordan Smith and receiver Mark White were among 1,091 players from 298 schools named to the 2017 Hampshire Honor Society.

To be eligible for the Hampshire Honor Society, a player must have been a starter or significant contributor during their last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA or NAIA institution, maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers and met all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements and graduation.

The 1,091 student-athletes recognized this year are the most in a single-season since the inception of the program in 2007. A total of 7,723 student-athletes have been honored in the history of the program.

Huntingdon was one of 19 schools with at least 10 honorees this season. Huntingdon’s 11 honorees this season are the most in a season for the Hawks.

Since 2007, Huntingdon has had at least one student-athlete recognized each year. This is the sixth time in 11 years that five or more Hawks have been recognized in a season. With this year’s selections, a total of 56 Hawks have been recognized.

Huntingdon was one of five schools in Alabama to have at least one player selected this year. In addition to Huntingdon’s selections, the University of North Alabama had four players selected, Auburn University and Troy University each had two players named and the University of South Alabama had one selection.
