Local prep baseball teams set for postseason

Staff Report
(April 17, 2017)

The post season has arrived for high school baseball. But there are still a few holes to fill when it comes to opponents for teams in the River Region.

Over the weekend, several teams wrapped up playoff bids, including LAMP, which returns to the playoffs for the first time since 2012 and the first time in Class 4A.

The Golden Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa County to play Sipsey Valley in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Friday in a best-of-three series. A third game, if necessary, will be played on Saturday. Times will be announced later this week.

“None of these guys have been to the playoffs before,” stated LAMP coach Chad Smith regardiing his seniors. “So it’s been our goal for several years. To accomplish that this year is big. It was very important for us.”

Other teams are still awaiting either their first-round opponent or their actual playoff fate.
