Former Russell County star Colby Rasmus is headed "home" for a rehab stint with the Montgomery Biscuits.

Rasmus is rehabilitating a hip injury after undergoing surgery in October 2016. A 9 year MLB veteran, he has appeared in more than 1,000 games, with 156 career home runs. He was selected in the first round of the 2005 Major Leage Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and has played for three MLB clubs before joining the Rays in January. Notable achievements included Defensive Player of the Year for the Toronto Blue Jays and Gold Glove Finalist for American League left fielders.

The Seale, Ala., native is the first player to join the Biscuits on a rehab assignment this year. Three players have seen action in a Biscuits’ uniform while on the Rays’ disabled list since 2015. Recent assignments include Drew Smyly (2015), Brad Boxberger (2016), and Chase Whitley (2016).

Rasmus led Russell County to the 2005 Class 5A state title and was named the state’s top player out of high school that same year. He was also part of the Columbus, Ga. Little League team that reached the finals of the World Series in 1999.

The Biscuits begin a 10-game homestand on Saturday with the opener of a five game series against the Mississippi Braves. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
