Jeff Davis clinches playoff berth with win over Prattville

Staff Report
(October 20, 2017)

Jeff Davis quarterback JaQuan Williams passed for 264 yards and ran for two scores to lift Jeff Davis to a 31-14 win over Prattville in a key Class 7A, Area 2 game at Cramton Bowl on Thursday.

The win all but assured Jeff Davis a spot in the playoffs.

Williams finished 16 of 24 in pass attempts including an interception. He also rushed for 60 yards in JD’s fifth win of the season (5-4, 3-2).

Prattville (3-4, 2-3) was eliminated from playoff contention for the third consecutive year, which hasn’t happened since 1985-87.

The Lions grabbed the early lead, taking the opening kickoff and driving 70 yards for a score on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Tre Edwards to Malik Smith with just two minutes elapsed on the clock.

Jeff Davis answered with 21 straight points that included touchdown runs of 3 and 37 yards by Morgan Dorsey. Williams added a 1-yard run that gave the Vols a 21-7 lead.

Edwards pulled the Lions to within a touchdown on a 3-yard run just before the half.

The Vols added to their lead in the second half with a 26-yard field goal by Juan Ocana and a 1-yard score by Williams.

Dorsey finished with 75 yards rushing while Edwards led Prattville with 138 yards rushing.

Jeff Davis will close out the regular season next week against Auburn. Prattville plays at Central-Phenix City.
