HS BASEBALL: LAMP, ACA sweep weekend series

Garrett Deloney scattered three hits over four innings while Timothy Simpkins and Justin Watson each homered in LAMP’s 18-5 five-inning win over Montgomery Catholic on Saturday. The win clinched the series for the Golden Tigers.

LAMP followed with a 23-2 five-inning victory in the second game of a doubleheader.

In Game 1, Simpkins, Hayden White and Lucas Tribble each had three hits. Simpkins hit a wo-run homer in the fourth inning. Daniel Johnson, Martin Bryant and Jalen Spraggins each had two hits.

Deloney struck out six in four innings of work.

In Game 2, Simpkins hit his second home run of the day in the third, scoring two runs. Bryant also added a solo home run while Spraggins had two hits and two runs batted in. As a team, LAMP had 15 hits in the win.

Chris Dunn was the winning pitcher, giving up three hits in two innings of work. He struck out four and gave up two unearned runs.

Catholic was led by Josh Clark and Dean Rodopolous who had two hits apiece.

The Tigers (11-12, 3-0) will play Tuesday at Brewbaker Tech in a game that both teams will used composite or wood-like bats. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Ed Thompson Park on Ray Thorington.

ACA sweeps St. James

The Alabama Christian Academy Eagles took two games from St. James on Saturday and swept the three-game series.
The Eagles (14-9, 2-0), who won on Friday against the Trojans, took to games at St. James, 5-3 and 9-5.

In the first win, Chase Davis and Ryan Johnson each homered and drove in four runs while Ricky Solar had two hits including a double. Matt Self was the winning pitcher. Jake Jabour, John Slayton and KJ MEndelsohn each had two hits for St. James.

In Game 2, Goodwin Scott led ACA with three RBIs and a single. Solar had two hits as did Hudson Pugh. Ryan Johnson was the winning pitcher. Graham Norwood had two hits including a two-run homer for the Trojans (13-6, 0-2).
