The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control announced changes to both the basketball regional and state baseball final venues for the spring.

The board announced that the Southwest Regional Basketball Tournament would be moved from Alabama State University to the Cramton Bowl Multiplex with some games also moving to Garrett Coliseum. The Coliseum would stay as the host site for the Southeast Regional tourney, as well.

The regionals are scheduled for Feb. 17-24.
The Board also approved moving the 2022 State Baseball Championships from Montgomery to Oxford’s Choccolocco Park and Jacksonville State University’s Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. Both moves were made due to conflicts with the scheduled sites in Montgomery.
The move of the baseball finals were due conflicts with the home team, Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium the week of the baseball finals. The finals are scheduled for May 16-24. Montgomery has a series with Pensacola that week.

“We appreciate the city of Montgomery and the cities of Oxford and Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University for working with us,” stated AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs.
The Multiplex will hold the Southwest Regional 2A, 3A 5A and 6A games while Garrett Coliseum will be the host site of the Southwest 7A, 4A and 1A regional games along with the entire Southeast Regional slate.
Garrett Coliseum had both regionals last season, which were limited to the finals due to last year’s COVID-19 restrictions.

The city lost the state softball tournament last year due to needed renovations to Lagoon Park. The tourney is played at Choccolocco Park for at least the next two years.
