AHSAA CROSS COUNTRY: Trinity finishes second, LAMP fourth in state meet

Trinity’s six runners finished within 10 positions of each other in the 3A state cross country meet, helping the Wildcats to a second-place finish at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum in Moulton on Saturday.

LAMP finished third in Class 4A , while Montgomery Academy finished fourth in 3A girls to highlight Saturday’s Alabama High School Athletic Association state cross country meet.

In 3A boys, Montgomery Academy’s Grant Casey finished second behind Vinemont’s Ethan Lemons with a time of 16:55.31. Trinity’s John Thomas Mathison was 11th at 17:42.35, followed by teammate Wilson Albrecht in 13th place with a time of 17:50.83. Trinity’s Chappell Hill was 14th, Carter Younger was 15th and Matthew Blake was 16th, with Paul Renner finishing 20th to complete the Wildcat entries.

Prattville Christian’s Carson Roberson was 31st at 19:09.66, Montgomery Academy’s Frank Williford was 39th and the St. James’ duo of Preston Phillips and Dylan Holt was 48th and 49th, respectively.

Bayshore Christian won the 3A boys’ state title with 55 points, followed by Trinity with 64. Montgomery Academy was sixth and PCA was 13th of the 15 teams competing.

In 4A boys, LAMP’s Augustin Lemuz was second with a time of 16:05.52, finishing five seconds behind the individual champion, Dakota Frank of Munford. LAMP’s Landon Perdue was seventh with a time of 16:42.94 and teammate Samuel Holmes was 32nd with a time of 18:22.50. The rest of the Golden Tigers finished back in the pack, including Nate Phung (62nd), Joseph Johnston (74th), Oliver Blackburn (89th), Noel Turner (95th), Liam Carey (101st), Amav Aggarwal (113th) and Cristian Carbajal (143th).

LAMP’s Ava Cain finished in 18th place in the girls’ division with a time of 21:07.32.

Providence Christian won the 4A boys’ state title with 48 points, followed by Hamilton with 106 and LAMP with 137 out of 16 teams competing.

In 3A girls, Elise Picard of Indian Springs won the individual championship with a time of 19:11.32, more than a full minute ahead of St. James’ Elley Goff (20:23.78) and Alabama Christian’s Kate Finch (20:30.43). Montgomery Academy’s Elle Ingram was seventh (20:51.80), Trinity’s Marley Smith was 22nd, Prattville Christian’s Kayden Carr was 24th, Prattville Christian’s Isabella Carothers was 36th, Montgomery Academy’s Susannah Miller was 37th and Montgomery Academy’s Ella Harding Pemberton was 43rd.

Altamont won the 3A girls’ state title with 55 points, followed by Whitesburg Christian (82), Glencoe (132), Montgomery Academy (153), Bayshore Christian (157) and Prattville Christian (163). St. James finished 10th of the 15 teams competing.  

In 5A boys, Catholic’s Henry Skala was the only local runner in the top 50, finishing 34th with a time of 17:40.14. Elmore County finished 10th and Catholic was 13th among the 16 teams competing.

In 5A girls, Catholic’s Ella Andrews was the only local runner in the top 50, placing 35th at 21:44.39 to help Catholic to a 14th place finish among the 14 teams competing.

In 6A boys, Wetumpka’s Matthew McGehee was 17th with a time of 16:58.63 and teammate Gavin Baxley was 26th at 17:09.75. Wetumpka was 11th and Pike Road was 20th out of 22 teams competing. In 6A girls, Stanhope Elmore was 18th, Pike Road was 20th and Wetumpka 21st of the 21 teams competing.
