AISA PLAYOFFS: Evangel wins big to advance; Springwood girls eliminate Edgewood

Evangel Christian Academy posted its second highest score of the season in a 64-24 defeat of Monroe Academy in the Alabama Independent School Association Class AA quarterfinals at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Wednesday afternoon.
Evangel Christian (19-5) will advance to the AISA semifinals for the eighth time in the last nine years and will play Springwood School on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state championship game.
Twelve players scored for the Lions, including five from Tylon Shine and five from Mekhi Williams in a 14-point first quarter. Williams had a 3-pointer in the first quarter and another in the third to spark the offense.
Shine led the Lions with 15 points, followed by Jordan Duncan with 13, Williams with 10 and Nathaniel Doss with six points.
Jody Lassitter led Monroe with 11 points.
Springwood School 47, Edgewood Academy 37
Springwood rallied with 19 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Edgewood 47-37 on Wednesday in the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
The winning Wildcats got 11 points each from Kori Key and CJ Johnson, with Wes Carden adding nine.
Springwood will play Evangel Christian in the AA semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state championship game on Friday at 6 p.m.
Avery Haskew led Edgewood with nine points, followed by Brock Whitt with eight.
GIRLS
Springwood School 65, Edgewood Academy 30
Shalexia Little scored 13 points in the first quarter and 12 more in the fourth to help Springwood defeat Edgewood 65-30 in the AISA Class AA quarterfinals at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Wednesday.
Springwood will play Clarke Prep in the AA semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state championship game on Friday at 4 p.m.
Little added six points on a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to finish with 31 points, followed by Tori Patillo with 14 and Emily Jo Matthews with 10.
Emerson Boddie led Edgewood with 12 points, followed by Aubrey Newton with eight.
Lowndes Academy 39, Restoration Academy 35
The Lowndes Academy defense held Restoration to five points in the first quarter and five in the third, lifting the Rebels to a hard-fought 39-35 win in the AISA Class AA quarterfinals at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Wednesday.
Lowndes Academy will play Southern Academy in the AA semifinals on Thursday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state championship game at 4 p.m.
Abby Lovell and Camryn Hess each had 10 points to lead Lowndes.
Sarah Williams had 12 points for Restoration, followed by Leah Thomas with 10.
Southern Academy 52, Fort Dale Academy 44 (OT)
Southern outscored Fort Dale 12-4 in overtime to defeat the Eagles 52-44 in the AISA Class AA quarterfinals at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Wednesday.
Southern Academy will play Lowndes Academy in the AA semifinals on Thursday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state championship game at 4 p.m.
Southern trailed 35-26 entering the fourth quarter, but staged a furious comeback to tie the game at 40-40 and send it into overtime.
Mallory Newton led the Cougars with 16 points. Margaret Cooper added 13 points, including five in overtime, and Maci Sluder also had 13 points, including four in overtime.
Brinkley Long led Fort Dale with 23 points, followed by Anna Claire Thomas with 15. The Eagles made just one field goal in overtime and were 2 of 6 at the free-throw line.
