AISA softball takes center stage at Lagoon Park this weekend
By TIM GAYLE
Many of the state’s top Alabama Independent School Association teams will gather this weekend to play in the inaugural Lagoon Park Bash on Friday and Saturday at Lagoon Park Softball Complex.
Several of those teams will also compete in an annual tournament the following week at Macon East Academy, but wanted the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the site of the AISA state tournament, which will be held on May 7-8 at Lagoon Park.
“We’ve been trying to do it for a couple of years,” Macon East Academy coach Glynn Lott said. “A lot of the coaches wanted to play at Lagoon before the state tournament. It’s just an opportunity to play some different teams. Hopefully, it’ll grow. We had more teams but we lost some because of scheduling at schools.”
Twelve teams make up the three pools that will play Friday and resume play on Saturday morning before advancing to a single-elimination tournament starting at 11 a.m. The tournament championship game is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
