AISA WEEK 2 WRAP: Macon East stays unbeaten; Lowndes shuts out Coosa Valley

CAMDEN -- Gabe Spencer ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries as Macon East joined Jackson Academy as the only 3-0 teams in the Alabama Independent School Association after a 30-13 win at Wilcox Academy on Friday night.

Deonte Powell completed 10 of 20 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown, throwing to Sanders Manning for a touchdown.

Manning caught five passes for 82 yards, while recording five tackles and an interception on defense. Brandon Wilkins added three receptions for 41 yards.

Defensively, Dalton Nickles led the Knights with 13 tackles. Wade Desmarais added 10 tackles.

Macon East (3-0) travels to Hope Hull next week to play Hooper Academy in the Knights’ AA Region 1 opener. Wilcox travels to Evergreen to play Sparta Academy in It’s a Region 2 opener next Friday.

Lowndes Academy 40, Coosa Valley Academy 0

HAYNEVILLE -- Clayton Hussey threw for a touchdown and ran for another and Dominic Dougan scored on an interception return to lead the defending Class A state champs to a 40-0 romp in their region opener on Friday at Mac Champion Field.

The Rebels, 1-1 overall and 1-0 in A Region 1 play, scored 20 points in the first quarter and 20 more in the second, while holding Coosa Valley to a pair of first downs and 19 total yards.

Kasen Dismukes scored on a 2-yard run to open the scoring, followed by a 17-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dougan and a 3-yard pass from Hussey to Noah Smith.

In the second quarter, Chase Rudder scored on a 7-yard run, Hussey added a 26-yard run and Rudder scored on a 29-yard run to give the Rebels a 40-point lead at the half.

Dismukes led the Rebels with 42 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Cooper Dansby led the defensive effort with five tackles.

Lowndes will play host to Southern in a region game next week, while Coosa Valley (0-3 and 0-1) will travel to Eufaula to play Lakeside in a region game.  

 

Autauga Academy 28, Bessemer Academy 0

BESSEMER -- Alex Peake had a pair of touchdown receptions and a pair of interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, as the Generals rolled to an easy 28-0 win over the Rebels in the region opener for both teams.

Autauga, 2-0 overall and 1-0 in region play, returns home to play Fort Dale and Valiant Cross in a pair of region games over the next two weeks.

Bessemer, 0-2 and 0-1, will travel to Glenwood to play a region game next Friday.

 

Morgan Academy 20, Valiant Cross 0

SELMA -- John Allen Ingram rushed for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries as the Senators won a hard-fought battle with Valiant Cross on Friday.

T.B. Clements connected with Rhyne Williams on a 23-yard pass to open the scoring in the first half, but it was still 6-0 in the Senators’ favor when Ingram scored the first of his two touchdowns on an 8-yard run in the third quarter. 

Ingram added another 40-yard scoring burst in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Williams threw a two-point conversion pass to Allen Lightfoot to close out the scoring.

Clements was 6 of 12 for 56 yards and a touchdown. Allen Michael Creech added 41 rushing yards on 10 carries while leading the defensive effort with six tackles.

Morgan, 1-1 overall and 1-0 in region play, remains home to play region rival Lee-Scott next week, while Valiant Cross (0-1) returns home to play Monroe.

Abbeville Christian 29, Hooper Academy 0

HOPE HULL -- The Colts had trouble generating any offense, falling to the Generals 29-0 at Davis Henry Field in the region opener for both teams on Friday.

R.J. Coker had 35 rushing yards and Ron McGinty added 31 for the Colts. Defensively, Kadyn Lumley led the Colts with seven tackles, followed by Mason Lewis with six tackles, Coker with six tackles and a pair of sacks and Jeremy Williams with five tackles.

Hooper, 0-2 overall and 0-1 in AA Region 1 play, will remain home to play region foe Macon East next Friday. Abbeville, 2-1 and 1-0, will travel to Elmore to play Edgewood in a region matchup next Friday.

Chambers Academy 49, Edgewood Academy 14

LAFAYETTE -- Chambers broke out of its scoring slump, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter and three more in the second to coast past Edgewood 49-14 in the AA Region 1 opener for both teams on Friday.

Both teams had struggled offensively to this point, with the Rebels managing only a field goal in losses to Lee-Scott and First Presbyterian, while the Wildcats were held to a touchdown in a season opening loss to Autauga.

The Rebels got 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns by Braxton Yerta, jumping on the Wildcats quickly for a 21-0 lead.

The Wildcats got a pair of touchdown passes from Austin Champion, but by then it was 35-14 in favor of the Rebels.

Champion was 3 of 12 for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns, throwing two passes for 86 yards to JB Collier, including 74-yard touchdown pass late in the first half. He also completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Boone.

Boone led the Edgewood rushing attack with 14 yards on five carries.

Defensively, Gabe LeMaster led Edgewood with eight tackles, followed by Bradley Boone with seven, Parker Shaw with six and Bryson Boone with six.

Edgewood, 0-2 overall and 0-1 in region play, returns home to play Abbeville Christian in a big region matchup next Friday. Chambers, 1-2 and 1-0, will play host to Crenshaw Christian.
