Last season’s trade deadline was busy for the Tampa Bay Rays.

While a few moves were made prior to Friday’s 3 p.m. deadline, 2021 was mostly quiet.

Only one player (at the moment) was traded from the Montgomery Biscuits. Right-handed pitcher Peyton Battenfield was traded to Cleveland for outfielder Jordan Luplow and righthander DJ Johnson.

The Rays also picked up veteran righthander Shawn Armstrong from Baltimore for cash.

Battenfield had a short stay in the Capital City, starting six games for the Biscuits. He was 3-0 with a 2.72 earned run average. In 36-plus innings, he had 46 strikeouts and just seven walks. Opposing batters were hitting just .179 against him.

The Biscuits added pitcher Jacob Lopez and outfielder Moises Gomez to their roster earlier in the week and activated infielder Austin Shenton after a trade with Seattle.

The Biscuits return home for a six-game home stand against Tennessee beginning Tuesday.
