Montgomery pitcher Taj Bradley and former Biscuits infielder Curtis Mead were selected to play in the MLB All-Star Futures game to be held Saturday, July 17 at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium as part of the annual All-Star festivities.

The game features the top minor league prospects in MLB.

Bradley, a right-handed starter, is considered the top prospect in the Tampa Bay organization and the 34th prospect overall in baseball. After Thursday’s no decision against Biloxi, he leads Southern League starters with a 1.51 earned run average in 15 starts. He has 11 no decisions for the season with a 3-1 record. He has struck out 83 in 71 and 1/3 innings.

He is a native of Los Angeles before moving with his family to Georgia.

Corner infielder Mead began the season with the Biscuits before being sent to Triple-A Durham on June 28.

Before leaving, the native Australian had built an impressive offensive resume with Montgomery, hitting .305 with a .548 slugging percentage and .942 OPS. He had 10 home runs and 36 RBIs.

“Those are two future big league players,” Biscuits manager Morgan Ensberg said. “They are certainly deserving. Taj obviously has elite stuff, top of the rotation type capability.

“Mead is the definition of a pro hitter, very good with all pitches. He has consistent bat path and hits the ball hard all the time.”

The two players join 12 others that have played with the Biscuits and made the Futures roster. The game originated in 1999.

One other player of note to make this year’s game is former Morgan Academy star Gunnar Henderson, who is part of the Baltimore Orioles organization. Currently a member of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, he is considered the second-best prospect in the Orioles system.

Last week, he hit for the cycle, the day before his 21st birthday.

The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT and can viewed on the Peacock Channel and app.
