COVID-19 UPDATE: Elmore County football suspends play; Wetumpka cleared; Troy-South Alabama postponed

One high school in Elmore County has been cleared to play football but another has suspended play for this weekend.

Wetumpka High School got the “all clear” to resume the season after sitting out last week and forfeiting its game with Greenville. The Indians are scheduled to play Pelham at Hohenburg Stadium on Friday.

But Elmore County High School learned on Tuesday that it must suspend play due to three positive test for coronavirus and 15 others exposed to positive cases, according to the Elmore County Board of Education.

The Panthers were scheduled to face Sylacauga on the road this Friday but will be forced to forfeit the game and remain winless in Class 5A, Region 4 play. ECHS is 1-6 overall after the forfeit.

Also announced on Tuesday was the game between Troy and South Alabama scheduled for Saturday in Mobile has been postponed due to COVID-19 cases and USA pausing practices this week. The game may be made up at some point during the season but no date has been set.
