The Knights wrapped up the 1A-5A Area 5 championship on Monday with a 39-0 win over Booker T. Washington, sweeping the season series from the Golden Eagles.

The game also marked the 12th shutout this season for the Knights (13-3), who have outscored their opponents 344-31 this season. All three losses were in overtime to 7A programs.

The Knights, now in their second year with a flag football program, honored seniors Carsyn Hawkins, Ann Cobb and Jehle Dickson in their final home game.

Dickson threw five touchdown passes and three conversion passes in the game against BTW after throwing three touchdown passes earlier against Northside Methodist.

In the win over BTW, Dickson hit Hayden Fitts with a 15-yard touchdown pass and Anna Russo with the conversion pass for a 7-0 lead. The senior then found Kate Robertson for a 10-yard touchdown pass and Rylee Wilcoxson on the conversion pass for a 14-0 lead.

Dickson threw 20 yards to Ann Cobb and 15 yards to Robertson for a 26-0 lead, then hit Russo with a conversion pass and Robertson with another 10-yard pass for a 33-0 lead.

The Knights scored their final touchdown on a 15-yard interception return by Frances Rogers.

Catholic tuned up for the area battle with a 39-0 win over Northside Methodist in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.

Dickson opened the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Cobb, then threw to Hayden Fitts for the conversion and a 7-0 lead. Dickson added a 5-yard touchdown pass to Robertson before Fitts scored on a 10-yard run for a 19-0 lead. Robertson had another 10-yard scoring reception, this one from Paige Sims, before Sims threw to Cobb for the conversion and a 26-0 lead.

Dickson’s third touchdown pass covered 10 yards to Haley Ishman. Dickson added the conversion on a pass to Wilcoxson.

Jamie McGuire, Russo, Haylei Mason and Robertson all had multiple sacks in both games and Rogers added an interception.

Catholic will travel to Valley to play Loachapoka in a qualifying tournament game on Monday at 4 p.m., while Booker T. Washington will play Valley. The two winners will meet in the finals at approximately 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the 1A-5A quarterfinals at the Area 7-8 winner.

Prattville 7, Smiths Station 6

SMITHS STATION -- Hartley McCay connected with Lanieya Page on a 35-yard touchdown pass for the Lions’ only touchdown as Prattville defeated Smiths Station 7-6 in a defensive battle on Monday.

The win helped Prattville avenge its first loss of the season, a 25-24 overtime setback to the Panthers on Sept. 6.

Page, who also recorded an interception on defense, scored the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Both teams struggled for yards, with McCay completing 5 of 13 passes, but 35 of her 47 yards came on the Lions’ only big play of the game.

Smiths Station scored its only touchdown in the final minute of the game, but Prattville turned back the Panthers on their conversion attempt to escape with the win.

Prattville (11-5) will travel to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 1 to play Central-Tuscaloosa in a qualifying tournament game at 2 p.m., while host team Hillcrest will face either Sidney Lanier or Park Crossing at 4 p.m. The two winners will advance to the finals at 6 p.m. and the winner of that game will advance to the 6A-7A quarterfinals at the Area 7-8 winner.
