FRIDAY HOOPS: Trinity boys top BTW Magnet; Prattville wins on buzzer beater

Trinity 65, BTW Magnet 45

Cal Bennett led a balanced attack with 15 points to lead Trinity to a 65-45 win over BTW Magnet on Trinity’s Captain Jack Court on Friday night.

Bennett scored five points as part of a 22-point second quarter and had four points in a 21-point third period as the Wildcats took control of the game. Jackson Taylor had 12 points, followed by John Morris with 11.

Bryce Brown led BTW Magnet with 16 points, followed by Pierceson Horn with 10.

Trinity plays host to Beauregard on Monday before traveling to Thorsby on Tuesday.

 

Prattville 75, Wetumpka 73

PRATTVILLE -- Zion Small put back a missed shot at the buzzer to help the Lions snap a three-game losing streak and defeat Wetumpka 75-73 in Powell Gym on Friday night.

The hot-shooting Indians raced out to a 29-13 lead in the first quarter before the Lions fought back with a strong 29-point third quarter featuring 3-pointers from Small, Kam Shanks, Kamran DeRamus and Trey Myrick.

Tavious Hohenberger led Prattville with 18 points, followed by Shanks with 17 points and eight steals and DeRamus with 13. Small’s game-winning basket gave him nine points.

Nate Rogers led Wetumpka with 24 points, while Kaden Cook had 14, all in the first half. Landon Sargent added 10 points and D’Marcus Peake added nine.

Prattville (2-3) will play in a tournament on Monday at Vestavia Hills.  

 Trinity 55, Brew Tech 48

Cal Bennett scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats to a 55-48 win over the Rams in the Brew Tech gym on Thursday night.

Chapman Pouncey and Mac Davis each had nine points for the Wildcats while John Morris had seven blocked shots and seven rebounds.

Brew Tech’s Micahi Gilchrist led all scorers with 17 points. The Rams (2-3) play host to Autaugaville on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tipoff Classic at Montgomery Academy.

Trinity (3-1) plays host to Beauregard on Monday before traveling to face Thorsby on Tuesday.

 

Jeff Davis 81, Prattville 72

PRATTVILLE -- Kam Shanks had 20 points to lead the Lions but Prattville couldn’t keep pace with the hot-shooting Volunteers in a 7A Area 3 matchup in Powell Gym on Thursday.

Jamicah Adair hit six 3-pointers and finished with 29 points to lead the Vols, followed by Ketwan Reeves with 21. Ethan Friendly and Ladarius Givan each had eight points for Jeff Davis.

Tavious Hohenberger had eight points in the first quarter to help the Lions stay with Jeff Davis but Prattville fell behind 40-36 at the half and could never make up the deficit. Hohenberger finished with 17 points, followed by Kamran DeRamus, who had all nine of his points in the third quarter.

Prattville (1-3 overall and 0-1 in area play) plays host to Wetumpka on Friday, then travels to a tournament at Vestavia Hills on Monday.

Prattville Christian 78, Sylacauga 56

PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars led the Panthers with 22 points, 4 assists, and took 3 charges. Carson Roberson added 19 points and 4 rebounds. Brady Roberson had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and took 4 charges. PJ Evans fell just short of a triple double as he added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. Conner Williams had 10 points and 10 rebounds as all five starters scored in double figures for the Panthers. PCA is now 1-2 on the season.

 

Edgewood Academy 53, Abbeville Christian 52

ABBEVILLE -- The Wildcats hit 11 of 13 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 53-52 win over the Generals on Friday night.

Austin Champion had 30 points and Cooper Hall added 10 for the Wildcats (2-1), who play host to Crenshaw Christian on Monday.

Connor Hutto led Abbeville with 16 points, followed by Jarvarse Turner with 14 and JaJuan Brown with 12.

 

GIRLS

Prattville Christian 66, Sylacauga 22

PRATTVILLE -- Hannah Jones led the Lady Panthers with 29 points, 14 rebounds and four steals in a comfortable 66-22 win over Sylacauga in the PCA gym on Friday.

CoCo Thomas added 17 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Jenna McClendon with eight points and 10 rebounds, Avery Rogers with six points, six assists and four steals and Kayden Carr with three points and five assists. Ally Blankinchip added four rebounds and four steals, while Laura Beth NeSmith scored three points.

PCA (3-1) will play undefeated Stanhope Elmore on Monday at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tipoff Classic at Montgomery Academy.

 

Stanhope Elmore 62, Tallassee 28

MILLBROOK -- Ariel Gilchrist had 19 points and 13 steals to lead Stanhope Elmore to a 62-28 romp over Tallassee on Friday in the Stanhope Elmore gym.

Jada McLeod added 13 points for the Mustangs, followed by Rylee Williams with 10 points.

Stanhope Elmore (4-0) travels to Montgomery to face Prattville Christian Academy on Monday at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tipoff Classic at Montgomery Academy.

 

Edgewood Academy 69, Abbeville Christian 47

ABBEVILLE -- Lindsey Brown scored 27 points and Madison Martin added eight as the Wildcats ran out to a 26-5 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 69-47 win over the Generals on Friday night.

Anna Grace Blalock led Abbeville with 16 points, followed by Caroline Armstrong with nine.

Edgewood (3-0) will play host to Crenshaw Christian on Monday.

St. James 43, Catholic 34

Ava Card scored 17 points and Natalie Barton had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Trojans defeated Catholic in a battle of unbeaten teams on Thursday in the St. James gym.

Catholic (4-1) will play Pike Road on Monday at 10 a.m. in the opening round of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tipoff Classic at Montgomery Academy.

St. James (5-0) will travel to Guntersville to play in the Supreme Courts Tournament on Monday and Tuesday.  

 

Trinity 57, Brew Tech 47

Maddie Smith had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Wildcats to a 57-47 win over the Rams on Thursday night.

Jayden Mitchell added 14 points, followed by Emma Kate Smith with 13 points and four rebounds and Mya Moskowitz with 11 points and five rebounds. Francie Morris had five steals and seven rebounds.  

Trinity (5-0) will play host to Beauregard on Monday.

 

Stanhope Elmore 60, Robert E. Lee 49

MILLBROOK -- Ariel Gilchrist scored 20 points, came up with six steals and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Mustangs to a win over the Generals on Thursday night in the Stanhope Elmore gym.

Tamira Smalls added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Stanhope Elmore, followed by Jada McLeod with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Stanhope Elmore (3-0) plays host to Tallassee on Friday before traveling to Montgomery to face Prattville Christian Academy on Monday at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tipoff Classic at Montgomery Academy.

LAMP 52, Beulah 35

VALLEY -- Arianna Cannida had 17 points to lead the Golden Tigers to a road win on Friday in the Beulah gym.  

Serenity Griffin added 13 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Grayson Dickert with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Beulah was led by Brandy Philips with 17 points and Savanna Clements with 14.

LAMP (4-2) plays host to Elmore County in the LAMP gym on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
