FRIDAY PREPS: Prattville baseball extends streak; St. James soccer beats BTW

BASEBALL

Prattville 6, Houston High (Tenn.) 5

HOOVER -- The Lions won their 11th consecutive game in walk-off fashion as Andy Hall’s single to left in the bottom of the seventh drove in Travis Stauter for a 6-5 win over the visitors from Germantown, Tenn., in the Hoover Walk-On’s Buccaneer Classic at the Hoover Met on Friday afternoon.

Prattville (20-3) improved to 4-0 in the tournament and won for the 20th time in the last 21 games, rallying to tie the game in the fifth, then winning in the seventh as five different batters supplied one hit each in defeating Houston. 

No hit was bigger than Hall’s swing on a full-count pitch to drive in Stauter, who had drawn a walk and stole second to get into scoring position. 

In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs and the Lions down 4-2, Ryley DuBose singled in Drew Jolley to close the gap to 4-3. Campbell Seamon then tripled and drove in Drew Brown and DuBose to give the Lions a 5-4 lead. Houston picked up one in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5, setting the stage for the Lions’ seventh-inning heroics. 

DuBose came on in the bottom of the fifth and pitched 1.2 innings of perfect relief to pick up the win. Andrew Hicks started the game, going 2.2 innings and surrendering three runs, two earned, on four hits and a pair of walks. Chandler Gibbs threw three innings, allowing three hits and two runs, while Clayton Smith and Will Baskin each pitched one-third of an inning. 

Brown went 1 for 2 with a pair of walks and three stolen bases while scoring three runs to lead the offense. DuBose was 1 for 2 with a walk, a stolen base, a run and an RBI, Stauter was 1 for 3 with a walk, a pair of stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI, Seamon was 1 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs and Hall was 1 for 3 with a walk and the game-winning RBI.

Prattville closes out play in the tournament on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against Chelsea at the Hoover Met. 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 10, BTW Magnet 0

Natali McCord and Chloe Taylor each scored their first goals for the year as the Trojans celebrated Senior Night with a 10-0 win over BTW Magnet on Thursday night.

Sana Shuford and Haley Brightwell each added a goal, McKenzie Turner scored a pair of goals and Katie Brightwell had four goals to surpass the 100-goal mark for her career.  

Turner assisted on three goals, Katie Brightwell had two assists and Ellie Welch, Mary Grace Hixon, Hope McCain, Kiyah Hyman and Dodge Prim each assisted on one goal. 

St. James travels to Alabama Christian Academy for a Saturday game at 8:30 a.m.

 

Montgomery Academy 11, LAMP 0

Virginia Meacham and Madison Yi each had three goals as the undefeated Eagles rolled past LAMP 11-0 on Thursday night. 

Hayes Jenkins, Bae Corley, Kaitlin Phenix, Sophia Cho and Mary Elizabeth Cole each added a goal in the win over the Golden Tigers. 

Corley, Cole and Cho had two assists each, while Meacham, Lily Hines, Sullivan Murphy, Tara Samant and Phenix assisted on goals.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 11, Thomasville 1

PRATTVILLE -- Liam Taylor scored four goals and Cade Segars added three goals and an assist as the Panthers rolled to an area win over Thomasville on Friday night.

Cohen Palmore had three assists and scored a goal, while Trey Barkley and Carson Roberson each had a pair of assists and scored a goal. Chase Gay scored one goal.  

PCA improves to 3-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in region play.

In the junior varsity game, PCA defeated the Tigers 9-0 as Jacob Hollon had three goals and two assists and Brady Roberson had two goals and three assists. Trevor Deason scored three goals and Joshua Rybarczyk had one as Mason Steward recorded the shutout in goal for PCA (2-3-2).

 

Montgomery Academy 5, LAMP 0

Five different players scored as the Eagles won their 4A-5A Area 4 showdown for first place with the Golden Tigers on Thursday night at McLemore Field.

Seniors Ruston Bassett, Alex Kohn and Will Ray each scored a goal, along with freshman Brewer Welch and sophomore John Allen. 

Bassett and Kohn each had a pair of assists. 

The Eagles (16-0-1) travel to Auburn to play the 7A Tigers on Saturday at 4 p.m.
