FRIDAY PREPS: Trinity baseball wraps up area title; Lakeside girls track wins state championship

BASEBALL

Trinity 15-9, Booker T. Washington 0-1

Trinity wrapped up the 4A Area 4 championship by sweeping the Golden Eagles 15-0 and 9-1 at Whittle-Armstrong Field on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats finished the area race with a 7-1 record, followed by Catholic at 6-2, LAMP at 5-3, Booker T. Washington at 2-6 and Bullock County at 0-8.

Trinity (20-11) will play Northside in a doubleheader in the first round of the 4A state playoffs next Friday afternoon at Whittle-Armstrong Field. A third game, if necessary, will be played on Saturday.

In the first game, the Wildcats scored eight runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third before the game was halted by the mercy rule. Brady Rascoll had a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Wilson Albrecht and D.M. Lieux each had a pair of RBIs.

Wesley Stallings held the Golden Eagles without a hit, striking out four in three innings of work.

In the second game, Fleming Hall had a pair of hits to lead the Wildcats to a 9-1 win.

Webber McClinton and Walker McClinton combined on a no-hitter, striking out 16 in the process.

 

Alabama Christian 13, Montgomery Academy 3 (6)

Hayes Hunt went 2 for 3 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs and pitched a complete game in a 13-3 win over Montgomery Academy on Thursday in a game at the AUM Baseball Complex halted after six innings by the mercy rule.

Hunt struck out three and walked one, holding the Eagles without an earned run in the 3A Area 6 victory.

Preston Hicks went 2 for 3 with a double, Judson Graham went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs, Landon Nelson went 1 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBIs, David Ramirez went 2 for 3 and Mac Moorer, William Milner, Kaleb Hopkins and Ari Bowman all had RBIs.

The two teams resume the series with a doubleheader on Friday at MA’s Bowen Field.

 

SOFTBALL

St. James 8, Brew Tech 6 

AUBURN -- St. James rallied from a 4-1 deficit with six runs in the second inning, then held off Brewbaker Tech to defeat the Rams 8-6 in a second-round game in the Beauregard Tournament at the Auburn Softball Complex on Friday.

Sydney Johnston went 2 for 3 with a triple, a pair of runs scored and three RBIs, while Tat Shuford went 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run, scoring twice and driving in a run.

Ava Stanford picked up the win in the circle, allowing five hits and five runs in three innings of work while walking three and striking out one. Emerson Hagen pitched the fourth inning, giving up a run on a hit while striking out one.

For Brew Tech, Gabby York went 1 for 3 with a solo home run and a pair of runs scored, Taniyah Brown went 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs and Khamiyah Brown went 1 for 2 with a home run, a run scored and three RBIs.  

 

Saraland 6, St. James 4

AUBURN -- Saraland scored five runs in the fourth inning to rally from a 4-1 deficit and defeat the Trojans 6-4 in an opening round game of the Beauregard Tournament at the Auburn Softball Complex.

Sydney Johnston went 2 for 2 with a run scored, Tat Shuford went 1 for 3 with a run scored, a home run and three RBIs and Emily Darby went 1 for 2 with a solo home run.

Emily Needham took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on four hits over five innings while walking six and striking out five.

Gracie Dees went 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs for Saraland, while Brelynne Hughes went 1 for 1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Laken Bryan picked up the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and no runs while walking two and striking out three in three innings.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Tuscaloosa Academy 10, Prattville Christian 0

TUSCALOOSA -- The Panthers were shut out on the road at Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday.

PCA (4-8) dropped to 1-2 in area play and will travel to face Autaugaville on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Tuscaloosa Academy 5, Prattville Christian 0

TUSCALOOSA -- The Panthers were shut out on the road at Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday.

PCA (8-3-1) will play host to Chilton County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Lakeside girls win AISA state championsip

GULF SHORES -- The Lakeside School girls’ track and field team won their third consecutive Class AA state championship in the Alabama Independent School Association event this week.

The Chiefs finished with 100 points, second only to the 109 points by AAA champion Lee-Scott Academy.

Leading the Lakeside charge were Chloe Helms and Sophie Seaborn.

Helms won all three distance races, taking the 800-meter run in 2:32, the 1600-meter run in 5:35 and the 3200-meter run in 12:42. Helms finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 54:28 and fifth in the triple jump with distance of 27 feet, 7 inches.

That performance earned her girls’ most valuable player honors in the track meet.

Seaborn finished in the top four in four races, highlighted by her second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52:29 and her runner-up finish behind Helms in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41. In addition, she was fifth in the 3200-meter run (14:05), third in the high jump (4 feet, 5 inches) and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 19:35.

Teammate Eliza Eriksen earned three top-five finishes, placing second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, fifth in discus at 74 feet, 2 inches and fourth in the 400-meter dash at 1:10.

 Graylin Pomeroy earned two top-five finishes, taking fourth in triple jump at 30 feet, 5.75 inches and fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 5 inches.

Other top ten scoring finishes for Lakeside were Addy Helms (sixth in 3200-meter at 14:56 and eighth in discuss at 69 feet, 9 inches) and Addysen Eriksen (fifth in 400-meter with a time of 1:10).

Three of four Lakeside’s relay teams also placed in the top five. The 4x800-meter relay team of Addy Helms, Riley Poss, Maggie Moore and LeighAnn Judah earned second place in 13:15. The 4x200 team of Eliza Eriksen, Rosie Robinson, LeighAnn Judah and Addysen Eriksen finished third in 2:03 and the 4x400 team of Rosie Robinson, LeighAnn Judah, Dylin White, Addysen Eriksen finished in third place.
