MIDWEEK PREPS: Catholic soccer shuts out LAMP; PCA softball tops Pike Road

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 4, LAMP 0
Will Belsterling scored a pair of goals and Gabe Russo scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Knights to a 4-0 win over the Golden Tigers at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Tuesday.

The game was originally scheduled for Catholic, but the field was too wet, causing the teams to switch their home-and-home playing dates.

Catholic (12-4) improved to 7-2 in 4A Area 2 play, taking a step closer to wrapping up the second playoff berth in the area.

Max Barranco also scored a goal for the Knights, while Joey Rodriguez added an assist.

Catholic travels to Enterprise to play the 7A Wildcats on Monday, then travels to BTW Magnet for an area game on the following Thursday.

 

Trinity 11, BTW Magnet 1

Jackson Champion scored three goals and Norris Pemberton added two as the Wildcats won their 14th consecutive game with an 11-1 victory over BTW Magnet on Tuesday night.

Other Wildcat goals were scored by Lawson Roth, Kirby Lumpkin, Kip Brown, Tillman Clements, Mac Davis and Michael Wilson.

Champion also had three assists, while Roth had two. Other Wildcat assists came from Will Owen, Brown, Lumpkin, Davis and Clements.

With the win, Trinity improved to 10-0 in 4A Area 2 play, having outscored their opponents 79-3.

Trinity (14-4-1) travels to LAMP on Thursday for an area game before returning home to play 7A Auburn on Monday.

 

Prattville Christian 4, Chilton County 3

CLANTON -- Cade Segars scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Panthers to a 4-3 win over the 6A Tigers on Tuesday.

Cohen Palmore added a pair of goals, including the game winner assisted by Cade Segars with three minutes left in the game. PCA outscored Chilton County 3-0 in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory.

PCA (3-5) will travel to Montgomery to play Brew Tech on Thursday.

The Prattville Christian junior varsity soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Tigers on Wednesday. PCA (2-3) will host Tallassee on April 17.

Trinity 10, Booker T. Washington 0

TUSKEGEE -- Jackson Champion scored four goals and Lawson Roth added two goals and four assists as the Wildcats won their 13th consecutive game and remained unbeaten in area play with a 10-0 win over the Golden Eagles on Monday night.

Mac Davis, Garrison Gulledge, Tate Bixenman and Kirby Lumpikin each chipped in one goal. Bo Stewart, Cal Bennett and Champion each had an assist.

Trinity improved to 9-0 in 4A Area 2 play and has defeated its area opponents by a combined 74-2 score.

 

Wetumpka 5, Prattville Christian 0

WETUMPKA -- Wetumpka shut out the Panthers at the Wetumpka Sports Complex on Monday.

PCA (2-5) will travel to Clanton to play Chilton County on Tuesday.

The Wetumpka junior varsity also shut out PCA 5-0.

 

Montgomery Academy 3, Stanhope Elmore 0

MILLBROOK -- Lucas Rizzo scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Eagles defeated Stanhope Elmore 3-0 on Saturday.

Rizzo assisted on goals by John Allen Lachney and Braxton Welch, then scored the game’s third goal with an assist from Welch

Montgomery Academy returns home for a pair of 6A Area 4 games, facing Russell County on Tuesday and Pike Road on Thursday. 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 8, Alabama Christian 0

The Trojans celebrated their lone senior on Senior Night, then Kendal Wright went out and scored a goal to help St. James to an 8-0 win over Alabama Christian in a 1A-3A Area 3 game at Carlisle Field on Tuesday night.

The two teams are the only two girls’ teams in 1A-3A Area 3 and Katie Brightwell helped the Trojans take command of the area race with five goals.

Mary Grace Hixon also scored a pair of goals for the Trojans. Hannah McCain, Addison Barber, Hilda Elofsson, Riley Purcell and Hope McCain all recorded an assist during the game.

St. James remains home to play 7A Auburn at Carlisle Field on Wednesday.

 

Montgomery Academy 13, Russell County 0

The Eagles remain unbeaten in 6A Area 4 play with a 13-0 win over Russell County at McLemore Field on Tuesday.

Sophia Cho scored four goals, Hayes Jenkins added two goals and Madison Yi had a pair of goals to help the Eagles complete the season sweep of Russell County. Ayla Chastain, Tara Samant, Anne-Emery Smith, Ella Harding and Norah Desautels each had a goal in the win.

Cho and Jenkins had three assists in the win, while Kerstin Daniel had two. Yi, Chastain, Katherine Sinco, Smith and Mary Elizabeth Cole each had an assist.

Montgomery Academy remains home to play Pike Road in an area game on Thursday.

 

Prattville Christian 4, Chilton County 1

CLANTON -- Bella Carothers had a pair of goals to lead the Panthers to a 4-1 win over the 6A Tigers on Tuesday.

Avery Rogers added a goal and an assist, Emily Branch scored a goal and Ella Pegg had a pair of assists.

PCA (6-1-1) will travel to Montgomery to play Brew Tech on Thursday.

 

BOYS TENNIS

LAMP 6, Houston Academy 3

The Golden Tigers won five of the six singles matches to defeat Houston Academy in a huge 4A-5A Section 3 match on Tuesday.  

For LAMP, No. 1 Edward Lee rallied in an exciting match to defeat Mitchell Piedra 0-6 , 7-6 (3), 11-9 to set the tone for the Tigers. At No. 2, Ian Shin defeated Brody Williams, No. 3 Ian Kim beat Jason Mun, No. 4 Sun Ho Kim beat Wills McRae and No. 6 Wooseong Lee defeated Landon King.

At No. 5, Houston Academy’s Thomas Buntin defeated Wonjun Lee.

In doubles, Houston Academy’s Piedra-Williams edged LAMP’s Edward Lee and Shin at No. 1 and Mun-McRae defeated Seunghyun Baek and Ian Kim at No. 2

At No. 3, LAMP’s Sun Ho Kim and Wonjun Lee defeated Buntin-King.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

LAMP 8, Houston Academy 1

The Golden Tigers swept the singles matches on Tuesday to defeat Houston Academy in a huge 4A-5A Section 3 match.  

In singles, No. 1 Kathleen Doyle defeated Carryne Chancey, No. 2 Reena Chen beat Karoline Merrell, No. 3 Dabeen Choi edged Kenza Bilbeisi, No. 4 Hannah Lee defeated Mary Parker Williams, No. 5 Grace Liu beat Libby McDonald and No. 6 Jamie Lo beat Naya Bilbeisi.

In doubles, Doyle-Chen defeated Chancey-Merrell at No. 1 and Hannah Baik and Choi teamed up to beat McDonald and Rosemary Clark at No. 3.

Houston Academy picked up its lone point at No. 2 doubles as Bilbeisi-Williams defeated Lee-Liu.

 

SOFTBALL

St. James 18, Montgomery Academy 0 (3)

St. James scored nine runs in the first inning and nine more in the second to defeat Montgomery Academy in a 3A Area 6 game at St. James on Tuesday.

The Trojans improved to 1-0 in area play and are tied atop the area standings with Alabama Christian. Montgomery Academy dropped to 0-1 and are tied for third with Trinity.

Montgomery Academy managed just one hit by Elinor Grace Hines and a walk by Frances Fitzpatrick.

Emerson Hagen pitched the first two innings for St. James, allowing one hit and striking out three. KK Hall pitched the third inning, allowing a walk while striking out one.

For the Trojans, Ava Stanford went 3 for 3, scored three runs and drove in two; Sydney Johnston went 2 for 3 with a double, scored twice and had four RBIs; Peyton Dees went 1 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs; Tat Shuford went 1 for 2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs; and Hagen went 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Hines took the loss for the Eagles. Only four of the Trojans’ 18 runs were earned.

 

Prattville Christian 6, Pike Road 1

PRATTVILLE -- Brinkley Sailors hit a pair of solo home runs as the Panthers defeated the Patriots 6-1 on Tuesday.

Chloe Hollon and Payson Hanson each had a hit and an RBI to lead the PCA offense.

Laura Beth Nesmith picked up the win in the circle, scattering six hits in five innings. Alivia Messick pitched the final two innings in relief.

PCA (13-7) will play host to Wilcox Central in an area doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

 

Trinity 7, LAMP 6

Trinity scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past LAMP 7-6 at Trinity on Tuesday.

Olivia Caraway started the two-out rally with a walk before Marley Sharpless reached on an infield error. Evie Knight then singled in Caraway and Ava Milton doubled to the fence, scoring Sharpless and Knight to tie the game.

Emma Rose Meldrum then singled in Milton, who slid under the tag at the plate.

Leading the Wildcats at the plate were Kate Knight, 3 for 4 with two RBIs; Ava Milton, 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs; and Emma Rose Meldrum, 2 for 2 with an RBI, hit by pitch and a walk. In the circle, Marley Sharpless pitched a complete game giving up 9 hits and striking out one.

The Wildcats (8-7) remain home to play Alabama Christian in a 3A Area 6 game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

Lowndes Academy 8, Crenshaw Christian Academy 1
Clayton Hussey threw a complete game, allowing five hits and one run while striking out six to lead the Rebels to the win.
Lowndes racked up 11 hits on the day.  Dominic Dougan and Walker Mcqueen each had three hits while Hussey had two. 
Grant Taylor went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Crenshaw Christian.
