MIDWEEK PREPS: Chandler leads Prattville softball to win; Davis sets record for MA tennis

SOFTBALL

Prattville 5, Dothan 2

DOTHAN -- Kaytie Chandler went the distance, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out eight in seven innings to lead the Lions to a 5-2 win over the Wolves on Tuesday afternoon.

Prattville improved to 7-1 in the 7A Area 3 standings, tied atop the area standings with Enterprise. Coaches from those two teams will have a coin flip to determine the area champion and the host site for the upcoming area tournament.  

Kaylee Robles led the Lions at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored, while Grace Easterling was 2 for 3 with a pair of stolen bases and a pair of RBIs, Sarah Grace Jones was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Kennedy Crum was 1 for 3.

Prattville (18-17) will travel to Vestavia Hills on Thursday and Tallassee on Tuesday before returning home to play Wetumpka next Thursday for Senior Night.

 

Prattville Christian Academy 7, Catholic 2

Chloe Hollon went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning, as the Panthers defeated the Knights 7-2 at Catholic on Tuesday.

Saniyah Weaver went 4 for 4 with a triple and both Sarah Williams and Brinkley Sailors were 2 for 3.

Starter Laura Beth NeSmith and Alivia Messick combined to strike out 10 batters.

PCA (20-10) will play host to Tallassee on Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

St. James 6, Alabama Christian 4

Emily Needham pitched a four hitter, walking five and striking out nine, as the Trojans defeated Alabama Christian 6-4 in a 3A Area 6 game at St. James on Tuesday.

St. James improved to 6-0 in area play and will host the area tournament in two weeks. ACA (4-2) will be the second seed, followed by Trinity (2-4) and Montgomery Academy (0-6).

Ava Stanford went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Sydney Johnston went 1 for 3 with a run scored, KK Hall went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Emerson Hagen went 1 for 2 with an RBI, Emily Darby went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored and Mary Oliver Maddox went 1 for 1 with a run scored and an RBI.  

Izzy Warrick went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead ACA. Emmah Clement and Anna Gleason had the other two RBIs for the Eagles.

St. James (20-12-1) will return to action this weekend in Millbrook at a tournament hosted by Stanhope Elmore.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 8, LAMP 0

Max Barranco and Will Belsterling each scored a pair of goals to help the Knights to an 8-0 area win over the Golden Tigers on Tuesday, securing Catholic the second seed in 4A Area 2 and a playoff berth.

In addition to Barranco and Belsterling, the Knights got goals from Garrett Sanford, Gabe Russo, Joey Rodriguez and Henry Skala. Belsterling had a pair of assists and Ben Chitlik, Stott Blancas, Matt Russo, Joe Reeves and Airyn Gilbert each added an assist.

Catholic will wrap up area play on Thursday with a home game against Andalusia.

 

Prattville Christian 14-10, Autaugaville 1-0

AUTAUGAVILLE -- Cade Segars scored five goals and had four assists to lead the Panthers to an area doubleheader sweep of the Eagles at Autaugaville High on Tuesday.

In the first game, a 14-1 win, Segars had four goals and three assists and Cohen Palmore added three goals and three assists. Micah Newsom had a goal and an assist, while Carson Wright, Liam Taylor, Grayson Gulck, Eric Sumrall, Wade Pratt and Brady Roberson each scored a goal.

In the second game, a 10-0 win, Ryan Kiefer led the Panthers with two goals scored, while Palmore added a goal and a pair of assists and both Segars and Brodie Whirley had a goal and an assist. Gulck, Stephen Bicknell, Brooks Reid, Lannom Bowman and Ethan Wong each scored a goal. Wright and Taylor each added an assist.

PCA (6-8) improved to 3-2 in area play with the doubleheader sweep and will travel to Tallassee on Thursday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Montgomery Academy 1, Chelsea 1

Sophia Cho scored the Eagles’ lone goal as Montgomery Academy salvaged a 1-1 tie with Chelsea on Tuesday.

The Eagles will play host to Oak Mountain on Friday at 5 p.m.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Davis sets school record with 113th career win

Whit Davis broke the school career record with his 113th win in the semifinals as Davis and his teammates advanced to the finals of the 7A Section 2 match at O’Connor Tennis Center.

Montgomery Academy leads Auburn High 42-40 heading into the finals that start on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Both teams have qualified for the state tournament by advancing to the finals.

Davis, Charlie Hill, John Alford, Jackson Brown, Ford Morano and Edwin Wu advanced to the singles finals, while the teams of Alford-Brown, Hill-Ron Sharma and Morano-Carlyle Chandler advanced to the doubles finals.

The Montgomery Academy girls also advanced to the finals, along with Auburn, and will be competing against the Tigers on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. at O’Connor Tennis Center.
