MIDWEEK PREPS: PCA softball tops Stanhope; LAMP tennis shuts out Catholic

SOFTBALL

PCA 13, Stanhope Elmore 5

Alivia Messick was the winning pitcher with a complete game with six strikeouts. Chloe Hollon was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Brinkley Sailors and Payson Hanson, both were 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Erin Williams and Sarah Williams were both 2 for 4. 

PCA (12-7) travels to St. James on Monday. 

Brew Tech 10, LAMP 0 (5)

Taniyah Brown and Kyra Wallace teamed up to throw a no-hitter as the Rams shut out the Golden Tigers 10-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule on Thursday.

Brown pitched the first three innings, striking out eight, while Wallace pitched the final two innings, striking out one.

Brown and Wallace helped their cause at the plate as well, with Brown going 2 for 2 with a pair of home runs, scoring twice and driving in three runs and Wallace going 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs.  

Grace Hunter also homered in the win, going 1 for 2 with a walk and scoring three times. Gabbie York went 3 for 4, scored twice and drove in a run, JaQuayla Jarrett drove in a run, and Peyton Garrett went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Brew Tech will return to the field on Monday at Dale County before hosting a huge matchup with Hartselle on Thursday at Lagoon Park Field 6.

Brew Tech 14, Opelika 1 (5)

Taniyah Brown and Kyra Wallace combined to hold the 6A Bulldogs to one run as Brew Tech got five RBis from Taniyah Brown and five more from Khamiyah Brown in the win on Tuesday.

Taniyah Brown went 3 for 3, scored three runs and drove in five with a pair of doubles. Khamiyah Brown went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, scoring once and driving in five runs.

In the circle, Taniyah Brown allowing just two hits in three innings while striking out four and walking none. Wallace pitched the remaining two innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out three.

Brown and Wallace, who went 3 for 4 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs, also had offensive help from Gabbie York, who went 3 for 4 with a triple and a pair of runs scored; JaQuayla Jarrett, who went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk; Grace Hunter, who went 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI; Peyton Garrett, who went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored; and Kaymarria Bandy, who went 1 for 4 with a double.

The Rams return to action on Thursday against LAMP.

BASEBALL

Lowndes Academy 7, Southern Academy 1

Jase Howard, Cooper Dansby, and Clayton Hussey all drove in runs in the second inning to lead Lowndes to a win.
Lowndes Academy Varsity Rebels fired up the offense in the second inning, when Howard grounded out, scoring one run.
Dansby started and gave up a run on four hits over four innings. Andrew Yelder pitched the final three innings, striking out six.
Southern starter Brayden Hennigan pitched four innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits.
Clay Duncan and Dominic had two hits to lead Lowndes.
Wesley Hall went 2-for-3 to lead Southern.

BOYS TENNIS

LAMP 9, Catholic 0

The Golden Tigers won their second match in as many days on Wednesday, sweeping the singles and doubles against the Knights.

In singles, No. 1 Edward Lee defeated Sebastian Sayegh, No. 2 Ian Shin beat Max Freeman, No. 3 Ian Kim beat Peter Walski, No. 4 Sun Ho Kim defeated David Huston, No. 5 Wonjun Lee beat Jin Lee and No. 6 Richard Chen defeated Duncan Perry.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Edward Lee and Shin defeated Sayegh-Freeman, the No. 2 team of Seunghyun Baek and Ian Kim beat Walski-Huston and the No. 3 team of Sun Ho Kim and Wonjun Lee defeated Jin Lee and Perry.

LAMP (10-1) will travel to Dothan to play Houston Academy on Tuesday.

LAMP 7, St. James 2

The Golden Tigers won five of the six singles matches to ensure a victory over the Trojans on Tuesday.

In singles, No. 1 Edward Lee defeated Toba Rios, No. 2 Ian Shin beat Josh Harvey, No. 3 Ian Kim defeated Danny Trock, No. 4 Sun Ho Kim beat Ryan Jeong and No. 6 Wooseong Lee beat Grayson Eaves.

The Trojans secured their only singles victory at No. 5 where Jason Jeong defeated LAMP’s Wonjun Lee 7-5, 0-6, 10-8.

In doubles, LAMP picked up wins at No. 1 as Edward Lee and Ian Shin defeated Rios-Harvey and at No. 3 where Sun Ho Kim and Wonjun Lee beat Jason Jeong and Eaves.

St. James won at No. 2 as Trock and Ryan Jeong defeated Minsoo Park and Ian Kim.

GIRLS TENNIS

LAMP 9, Catholic 0

The Golden Tigers swept the singles and doubles matches from the Knights on Wednesday.

In singles, No. 1 Kathleen Doyle defeated Wilson Samuels, No. 2 Reena Chen beat Darby Webb, No. 3 Hannah Lee beat Eliana Conceicao, No. 4 Dabeen Choi beat Sophia Lopez, No. 5 Grace Liu defeated Audrey Trant and No. 6 Stacey Yoo beat Macayla Marbury.

In doubles, Chen-Doyle beats Samuels and Alyn Mai at No.1, Lee-Liu beat Conceicao-Webb at No. 2 and Hannah Baik and Choi defeated Trant-Lopez at No. 3.

LAMP 6, St. James 3

The Golden Tigers won five of the six singles matches to clinch the victory over the Trojans on Tuesday.

Winning singles matches for LAMP were Kathleen Doyle, Reena Chen, Dabeen Choi, Grace Liu and Stacey Yoo.

Karly Bailey won singles for St. James at No. 3.

Chen and Doyle won at No. 1 doubles for LAMP.

BOYS SOCCER

Trinity 2, Catholic 1

Trinity won its 12th consecutive game and second over the Knights this season in a 2-1 win at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Thursday.

Jackson Champion scored both goals for the Wildcats with an assist by Will Owen as Trinity (12-4-1)  improved to 8-0 in 4A Area 2 play. Catholic dropped to 6-2 in area play, with both losses coming to Trinity.

Trinity goal keeper Carter Younger had six saves.

Ben Chitlik scored the lone goal for Catholic with an assist from Gabe Russo.

Trinity will travel to Tuskegee to play Booker T. Washington on Monday at 7:30 p.m. for a makeup area game postponed by rain earlier in the season. Catholic will play host to LAMP in an area game on Tuesday.  

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 9, Opelika 2

Katie Brightwell scored eight goals and assisted on Sana Shuford’s goal as the Trojans defeated the Bulldogs 9-2 at Carlisle Field on Thursday night.

Addison Barber assisted on three of Brightwell’s goals and Ragan King, Shuford and Natalie Barton each contributed an assist.

St. James will remain home to face Alabama Christian Academy on Senior Night at Carlisle Field on Tuesday.
