MIDWEEK PREPS: Prattville, catholic flag football stay atop region with win

Prattville 39, Helena 7

HELENA -- Kaytie Chandler threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Lions maintained their first-place standing in 6A-7A Region 5 with a 39-7 win over Helena on Tuesday.

Prattville improved to 4-0 in region play with games remaining against Spain Park and Hoover. The Lions maintained a half-game lead over Vestavia Hills, whose only loss this season is to Prattville.

Lanieya Page was on the receiving end of all three of Chandler’s touchdown passes.

Hartley MCcay rushed for a touchdown and had a pair of interceptions. Avery Patterson also had an interception for the Lions.

Emma Moore had a pair of sacks and Eriana Benson and Gabbie Hoyle each added a sack.

Prattville (8-2) returns to action on Thursday at Smiths Station.

Catholic 51 Ellwood Christian 0

Haley Ishman scored four touchdowns in the second of two region games on Tuesday as the Knights improved to 5-0 in 1A-4A Region 4 play with a 51-0 shutout of Ellwood Christian.

Ishman scored on plays of 10, 15 and 10 yards and also returned an interception 15 yards for another score.

Hayden Fitts passed for 35 yards and also had a pair of rushing touchdowns along with an interception on defense.

Avery Sadler had a 5-yard touchdown reception in the win.

Anna Russo scored a pair of conversions and also threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ishman.

Catholic (12-4) travels to Ozark today to play Carroll at 3 p.m.

 

Catholic 33 Wilcox Central 0

Hayden Fitts passed for 75 yards and three touchdowns while running for another score as the Knights posted a 33-0 shutout of Wilcox Central on Tuesday to improve to 4-0 in 1A-4A Region 4 play.

Anna Russo recorded a safety and scored on plays of 10, 5 and 10 yards to help the Knights remain unbeaten in region play. Haley Ishman also scored a 15-yard touchdown, while Jamie McGuire led the defensive effort with three sacks.

Catholic (11-4) can wrap up the region title with a win at home against Marbury on Oct. 22.

 

VOLLEYBALL

St. James 3, Pike Road 2

PIKE ROAD -- Pike Road and St. James alternated sets in a fiercely contest match on Tuesday before the Trojans won the third set 15-12 to prevail in the Pike Road gym on Tuesday.

Pike Road won the first set 25-16 and the third set 25-17, while the Trojans won the second set 25-22 and the fourth set 25-22.

For the Trojans, KK Corley had 33 kills and 26 digs, Sydney Johnston had 22 digs and an ace, Tat Shuford had 42 assists, 13 digs, three aces and three kills, Sana Shuford had eight kills and seven digs and Alex Mendel had three kills, six digs, three aces and a pair of blocks.

For the Patriots, Caroline Davis had four kills, 22 assists, three aces and nine digs, Kat Wilson had seven kills, five digs and three blocks, Jada Gresham had 15 kills, two aces, four digs and five blocks, Kylee Myers had five kills and Tai Rogers had seven kills. Abby Jackson had 17 digs, Bailey Dees had 15 assists and 14 digs, Brely Dees had three assists and 45 digs, Lola Gorman had 13 digs, McKenzie Anderson had three kills and three digs, Peyton Hall had two kills and four blocks and Izzy Wright had a pair of kills.

St. James (17-9) will travel to Gulf Shores this weekend to compete in the Shrimp Fest Tournament.  

 

Pike Road 3, Russell County 0

PIKE ROAD -- The Patriots wrapped up home-court advantage for the upcoming 6A Area 3 tournament with a 3-0 win over Russell County on Tuesday in the Pike Road gym.

Pike Road (18-8) improved to 5-0 in area play with the win. The Patriots will face Russell County again next week at home in the opening round of the area tournament.

For the Patriots, Jada Gresham had eight kills and four aces, McKenzie Anderson had eight kills, three aces and five digs, Kat Wilson had five kills, Peyton Hall had four kills and Kylee Myers had three kills. Izzy Wright added a pair of kills, Lola Gorman had a pair of digs, Brely Dees had five aces and 26 digs, Bailey Dees had 12 assists, four aces and three digs, Caroline Davis had 16 assists, three aces and four digs and Abby Jackson had four digs.   

 

Prattville Christian 2, Brew Tech 0

Prattville Christian 2, Auburn 1

The Panthers swept a tri-match on Tuesday, defeating Brew Tech in two sets and Auburn High in three at the Brew Tech gym.

Prattville Christian defeated Brew Tech 25-21 and 25-14 and Auburn 25-16, 19-25 and 16-14.

For the Panthers, Baylee Rogers had 56 assists, three kills, four aces and six digs, Emma Cate Carter had 19 kills, an ace and 13 digs, Leah Cate Wilson had 14 kills and a block and Maren Diefenderfer had 13 kills, two blocks and two digs. Olivia Rossi had six kills, an assist and two blocks, Paysley Bayer had four kills and four digs, Jenna McClendon had a kill and a block, Natalee Wheeler had an assist, two aces and 11 digs, Brylee Byrd had eight digs, Morgan Fowler had two aces and 12 digs, Aiden Williams had an assist, two aces and two digs and Marion Lewis had a dig.

PCA (32-12) will return home to play Danville and Wetumpka on Thursday in a tri-match.
