PREP BRIEFS: ACA baseball JAG tops Catholic; Prattville beats Tallassee

BASEBALL

Alabama Christian 15, Catholic 6

Jackson Burton went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Eagles to a 15-6 win over Catholic at the AUM Dixie Baseball field on Tuesday.

Landon Nelson also went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, while Mac Moorer went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs and Grant Cornette went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Moorer allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out six over the first three innings. Jackson McGuire picked up the win, pitching the final four innings and allowing just one earned run while also striking out six.

 

JAG 15-17, Central-Coosa 0-7

JAG swept a doubleheader from the Cougars on Tuesday, winning the first game 15-0 and the second one 17-7.

In the first game, Jahmaree Hall singles in a pair of runs and Jerimiah Glover, Laking Anderson and Zach Jones all had RBI singles as part of an eight-run second inning that put the Jaguars up 12-0.

Jones started the game and picked up the win for JAG, pitching four innings of two-hit, shutout ball while striking out six.

In the second game, Jamori Mallard and Demarion Richmond each scored three runs as the Jaguars scored five runs in the first inning and 10 in the second. Glover, the first of four pitchers for JAG, allowed one hit and two runs in two innings of work while striking out four.

Central-Coosa’s Riley Humphrey went 2 for 3 in the second game, scoring a run and driving in two more.

Prattville 10, Tallassee 6

TALLASSEE -- Kaytie Chandler struck out 11 batters in seven innings of work to improve to 2-1 as the Lions defeated the 5A Tigers 10-6 at Southside Middle School on Tuesday.

At the plate, Chandler went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Kaylee Robles went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base, Zandia Bozeman went 1 for 3 and drove in a run, Zarria Bozeman went 1 for 2 and drove in a run and Addi Lee went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Prattville (3-2) returns home to play host to Vestavia Hills on Thursday. 

Lowndes Academy 16, Valiant Cross 0 (3 Inn.)

Clayton Hussey drove in two runs and scored two more to lead the Rebels to the win on Tuesday.

The Rebels scored 14 runs in the first inning and finished the game with just five hits.

Dylan Courtney added a double and an RBI. Grant Casey was the winning pitcher.

 

SOFTBALL

Pike Road 6, Holtville 3

PIKE ROAD -- Pike Road picked up its second win of the year, beating the Holtville Bulldogs 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Pike Road scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first after Kennedy Cuthbert led off with a single and Ameria Anderson bunted her to second. Addison Belyeu singled in Cuthbert and scored on Anna Williams’ groundout to second base.

In the third, Kelsey Williams singled, stole second, went to third on a fly ball and scored on Anderson’s groundout for a 3-0 lead. Kelsey Williams added another run in the fifth on a two-out double by Cuthbert.

The Patriots picked up two more runs in the sixth when Anderson singled and Belyeu doubled. Anderson scored on Anna Williams’ groundout and Belyeu scored on Ava Williams’ groundout.

Anna Williams picked up the win in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits while walking three and striking out one.

Victoria Bullock led Holtville with two hits. Kylie Snowden took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits while walking two and striking out one.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 4, BTW Magnet 0

JP Costa scored a pair of goals and Tymari Isner and Ariyn Gilbert each added a goal in a 4-0 shutout of BTW Magnet at Catholic on Tuesday night.

Tony Lemuz, Ben Chitlik, Stot Blancas and Todd Bonnell all had assists for the Knights.

Catholic returns to action on Thursday at Andalusia.
