PREP COUNTDOWN 2020: Cramton Bowl, MPS schools fine tune schedules

It took a while but the official schedule for Cramton Bowl has been released.
Fortunately for the local city schools (MPS) the Bowl is available for use after there was some discussion that the city might close the venue due to complications with the coronavirus.
All five schools have dealt with a few adjustments to the upcoming schedule and the hope is everything will stay as is.
Games begin on Thursday but the first city contest is not until next Saturday when Jeff Davis and Sidney Lanier meet. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Alabama State but was moved due to COVID-19 restrictions on the campus.
The Bowl opens its schedule with the annual AHSAA Kickoff Classic with Catholic facing Pike Road on Thursday and Prattville taking on Wetumpka on Friday.
The schedule features four Saturday games of which three involve Jeff Davis. Along with next Saturday, the Vols will face Central-Phenix City on Sept. 12 and Enterprise on Oct. 17. Both games are scheduled for 11 a.m.
Robert E. Lee also has a scheduled Saturday game against Opelika on Oct. 10.
Only two weekends feature only one game on Friday, Aug. 28 and Sept. 25. The Aug. 28 game between Lee and Jeff Davis will be followed by the annual FCS Classic on Saturday between Austin Peay and Central Arkansas.
Of the five city schools, G.W. Carver is the only school that will not open its season next week. The Wolverines open on Aug. 28 at Enterprise.
With Lee dropping down to Class 6A, each of the schools face one another during regular-season play. Four of the five are in the same region with Lee, Lanier, Carver and Park Crossing all facing off in Class 6A, Region 2.
Currently, only Sidney Lanier has a schedule of nine games.
In other scheduling news, Stanhope Elmore announced on Thursday that the Mustangs’ game with Selma next week has been cancelled. The game scheduled to be played in Selma has been replaced on the schedule by Opelika, which had originally scheduled a game in Georgia the first weekend.
The game will be played in Millbrook.
Also, Marbury announced on Thursday that the opener with Montevallo has been changed. The Bulldogs will open on Friday, Aug. 21 at home against Charles Henderson.
