PREP HOOPS: MA boys slam PCA; Pike Road girls top Marbury

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 68, Prattville Christian 33

Montgomery Academy’s defense held the Panthers to under 10 points in every quarter, allowing the Eagles to build a 16-point halftime lead on the way to a 68-33 win at Joe Mooty Court on Monday.

Ten players scored for Montgomery Academy, led by Skyler Stovall’s 26 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and five assists. DJ Vinson added nine points, 15 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while Cole Caddell added eight points and five rebounds. Seth Edwards chipped in six points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists while Brewer Welch added five points, seven assists and five rebounds. John Alford also scored six points and grabbed five rebounds to along his two assists. 

For the Panthers, Cade Segars had 11 points, Brady Roberson scored nine points and Collier Connell scored six points. PJ Evans added three points and four rebounds. 

Montgomery Academy (20-7) will play their final regular season game on Tuesday night at home against 6A Wetumpka.

PCA (13-14) will travel to Trinity on Tuesday and St. James on Thursday.

 Brew Tech 65, Catholic 39

The Knights got a double double from Garrett Sanford but struggled to stop the Rams defensively, dropping a 65-39 decision to Brewbaker Tech on Saturday afternoon in the Rams’ gym.

Rickie Williams led the Knights with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Sanford added 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

Catholic (10-9) will play Park Crossing on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Prattville Christian 64, Montgomery Academy 23

Ally Blankinchip had 19 points, seven steals and five rebounds to lead the Panthers past Montgomery Academy at Joe Mooty Court on Monday. Avery Rogers added 11 points, seven steals and six rebounds, followed by Kayden Carr with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, Baylee Rogers with nine points, LB NeSmith with seven points and Sydney Lee with six. Leah Cate Wilson added three points and four rebounds, while Chelsea Cutler grabbed four rebounds. 

PCA (22-5) will travel to play Trinity on Tuesday and St. James on Thursday.

 Prattville Christian 66, BTW Magnet 14

PRATTVILLE -- Kayden Carr led the Panthers with 21 points, 10 steals and six rebounds, all in the first half, as Prattville Christian defeated BTW Magnet in a rescheduled area game on Saturday.

The Panthers completed 4A Area 5 play with a 6-0 record and will host the area tournament in two weeks. PCA will face BTW Magnet once again in the first-round area tournament matchup.

On Saturday, Avery Rogers added 14 points, seven steals and five rebounds, followed by Ally Blankinchip with 11 points, four assists and four steals, Baylee Rogers with six points, five assists and five steals, LB NeSmith with six points, Leah Cate Wilson with five points and seven rebounds and Sydney Lee with three points. 

 

Pike Road 62, Marbury 47

PIKE ROAD -- The Patriots honored Jazz Johnson and Samone Patterson on Senior Night, then went out and defeated Marbury 62-47 on Saturday afternoon in the Pike Road gym.

The game was originally scheduled for Nov. 10 but was moved to Saturday because of the football playoffs. 

Audrey Blaine led the Patriots with 24 points and nine rebounds, followed by Jazz Johnson with 16 points and nine rebounds. 

Pike Road (21-4) will travel to Troy on Tuesday to play Charles Henderson.

Lakeside School 49, Hooper Academy 43

EUFAULA -- Chloe Helms had 25 points to lead the Chiefs to a win over the Colts in the first round of the AISA Class AA state playoffs in Pitts Gymnasium on Monday night.

Addy Helms added 11 points and Sophie Seaborn scored eight as Lakeside advanced to the Elite Eight and will travel to face Southern Academy on Friday, with the winner advancing to the Final Four at the Multiplex on Feb. 7.
