PREP HOOPS: St. James girls top Loachapoka; Catholic, PCA win

St. James 43, Loachapoka 37

Loachapoka threatened to pull off an early-season upset, leading St. James 37-36 with a little more than two minutes remaining, but the Trojans scored the last seven points of the game to finish the St. James Tip Off Tournament unbeaten with a 43-37 win over the Indians on Saturday afternoon. 

Ave Card scored 22 points to lead the Trojans, followed by K.K. Hall with 10.  

Taylah Murph led the Indians with 19 points.

St. James (4-0) remains home to play Brewbaker Tech on Tuesday, which will be the season opener for the Trojan boys. 

St. James 60, Geneva 30

Ava Card had 19 points to lead the Trojans to a 30-point win over Geneva in the St. James Tip Off Tournament on Saturday morning. 

K.K. Hall added 11 points for St. James (3-0), followed by Natalie Barton and Hope McCain with eight points each.  

Dee Robinson and Melody Watson each had nine points to lead Geneva.

Catholic 72, BTW Magnet 26

Hannah Smith led five players in double figures as Catholic crushed BTW Magnet 72-26 on Saturday night in the Catholic gym.

The Knights led 29-1 at the end of the first quarter and cruised from there, winning their third game of the season in as many outings. 

Allyse Rudolph, Julienne Pharrams, Joanna Marlow and Andre'e Aiken all added 10 points each for Catholic. 

Amylya Cleveland led BTW Magnet with 14 points. 

Catholic (3-0) will play host to St. James on Thursday.

Prattville Christian 75, Chilton County 18

Prattville Christian wrapped up play in the St. James Tip Off Tournament with a 57-point win over the 6A Tigers on Saturday afternoon as Hannah Jones had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to their third win in the tournament.

Ella Jane Connell added 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, followed by CoCo Thomas with 14 points and eight rebounds and Avery Rogers with seven points, eight assists and four steals. LB NeSmith added eight points, Nya Davis had three points and four rebounds and Makenna Simpson scored three points. Jenna McClendon grabbed six rebounds, Kayden Carr had five steals and Ally Blankinchip had four steals. 

PCA (4-0) plays at Autaugaville next Friday.

Prattville Christian 57, Pell City 38

Ella Jane Connell scored 15 points, dished out seven assists and pulled down four rebounds to lead a balanced attack as the Lady Panthers defeated Pell City on Saturday morning in the St. James Tip Off Tournament.

Hannah Jones added 14 points and seven rebounds, followed by CoCo Thomas with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kayden Carr added seven points, five steals and four rebounds and Avery Rogers had five points and eight steals. Ally Blankinchip came off the bench to score three points.  

PCA (3-0) returns to action on Saturday afternoon in the tournament, facing Chilton County at 5:30 p.m.

 

BOYS

Catholic 51, BTW Magnet 46

Matthew Reardon scored 19 points to lead the Knights to a 51-46 win in their 2021-22 home opener on Saturday night.

Miles Hannah added 17 points and Johnathan Rhoden had nine for Catholic (2-0), which travels to Letohatchee to play Calhoun on Nov. 30.
