PREP PLAYOFFS: STJ, Trinity advance in soccer; PCA softball clinches regional berth

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 5, Faith Academy 0

Katie Brightwell scored four goals and assisted on Haley Brightwell’s goal to lead the Trojans to a 5-0 win over Faith Academy in the second round of the 4A-5A state soccer playoffs at Carlisle Field on Tuesday night.

The Trojans will play Montgomery Academy on Friday at McLemore Field at 5:30 p.m. in the 4A-5A quarterfinals in a rematch of last year’s quarterfinals. 

Brightwell now has 50 goals in 17 games this season. 

Mary Grace Hixon had a pair of assists for the Trojans, along with one from McKenzie Turner.

Katie Irving helped the Trojans record their ninth shutout this season.

 

Trinity 3, Cottage Hill 0

Ella Wiswall scored a pair of goals and Hastings Avant added another as the Wildcats defeated Cottage Hill 3-0 in the first round of the 1A-3A state soccer playoffs at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday night.

Wiswall also had a pair of assists in the win. 

Goalkeeper Kaylee Peevy recorded the shutout in goal.

Trinity will travel to Prattville Christian Academy for the 1A-3A quarterfinals. 

 

BOYS SOCCER

Trinity 1, St. Luke’s Episcopal 0

Trinity defeated a very tenacious St. Luke's team 1-0 in the first sudden death overtime in the first round of the 1A-3A state soccer playoffs at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday night.

Goalkeeper Joe Handey made 18 saves in the goal. 

The winning goal was set up by freshmen Bo Stewart and Lawson Roth with the assist from senior Josh Hixon to junior Jackson Champion for the winning goal. 

Trinity (17-3) will travel to Prattville Christian Academy for the 1A-3A quarterfinals. 

 

SOFTBALL

Prattville Christian 3, Catholic 2

PRATTVILLE -- CC Crawford and Hannah Smith each had a hit and drove in a run, but it wasn’t enough for the Knights, who fell to Prattville Christian in a defensive battle in the 3A Area 6 tournament at Prattville Christian on Tuesday.  

Jennifer Looney led the Knights with two hits. Auburn Wilcoxson and Mallory Hildebrand also had hits for Catholic, which will face Trinity in a rematch on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship game against Prattville Christian at noon.

 

Catholic 12, Trinity 2

PRATTVILLE -- Hannah Smith had three hits and drove in a run to lead the Knights to a 12-2 win over Trinity in the first round of the 3A Area 6 tournament at Prattville Christian on Tuesday.

Carissa Gilbert picked up the win, striking out seven.

Auburn Wilcoxson had a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Knights. Mallory Hildebrand and CC Crawford also had a pair of hits, while Rylee Wilcoxson had an RBI.

For Trinity, Madi Milton went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. 

 

Trinity 14, Montgomery Academy 4

PRATTVILLE -- The Lady Wildcats exploded for 14 runs on 10 hits and only committed one error in the field to beat Montgomery Academy in the losers’ bracket game on Tuesday.

Trinity advanced to the semifinals of the 3A Area 6 tournament and will play Catholic on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the finals against Prattville Christian at noon.

At the plate, Trinity was led by Ava Milton, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Mary Kathryn Adcock, who was 2 for 4 with a triple, scored three runs and drove in another. Madi Milton, Parker Dansby, Anna Beth Haynes, Emory Harris and Lilly Yancey each added a hit for the Wildcats. 

In the circle, Madi Milton pitched five innings, giving up seven hits while walking two and striking out five MA batters. 

 

Prattville 4, Enterprise 2

ENTERPRISE -- Jessica Cord went the distance, holding Enterprise to a pair of runs on four hits while striking out four to lead the Lions past the top-seeded Wildcats in the 7A Area 3 tournament on Tuesday. 

Prattville (23-17) will face the winner of the Jeff Davis-Enterprise game for the area championship on Thursday at 4 p.m. Be reaching the finals, the Lions also secured a regional berth and will play in the regionals at Lagoon Park on May 12.

Offensively, Kaylee Robles went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base, Magen Baker went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Kaytie Chandler went 1 for 2, Kylie Jarman went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored and Sarah Grace Jones went 1 for 2 with a double.

 

Prattville 11, Dothan 1

ENTERPRISE -- Sarah Grace Jones went 3 for 4 with a double and drove in three runs and Samantha Spisak went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs to lead the Lions to an opening-round win over Dothan in the 7A Area 3 tournament. 

Jessica Cord went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Jayden Kendrick was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, Kaylee Robles went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base and Kylie Jarman went 2 for 3, scored twice and stole four bases. 

Jarman was the winning pitcher, going six innings and allowing just four hits and a run.


Park Crossing 10-26, Sidney Lanier 7-5

Park Crossing completed its comeback in the 6A Area 3 tournament, defeating Sidney Lanier 10-7 and 26-5 to win the area tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Lagoon Park.

Both teams will advance to the regionals next week. 

Park Crossing managed just three hits in the first game, but Katelyn Kirk went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Catori Lowe went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and Kelsey Kirk went 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Thunderbirds to the win. 

Jamil Young went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Brooke Surles went 2 for 4 for the Poets.

In the second game, Katelyn Kirk went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and Lowe went 1 for 2 and drove in three runs to lead the Thunderbirds to the area title.

  

Park Crossing 30, Robert E. Lee 24

The Thunderbirds reached the championship game of the 6A Area 3 tournament with a 30-24 win over Robert E. Lee on Monday at Lagoon Park.

De’asia Hines went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs to lead the Thunderbirds. Kelsey Kirk went 1 for 3 and drove in four runs.

 

Sidney Lanier 23, Park Crossing 7

The Poets held Park Crossing to just one hit and took advantage of nine errors by the Thunderbird defense to win 23-7 on Monday and advance to the finals of the 6A Area 3 tournament at Lagoon Park.

Jackalynn Brand went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Jamil Young went 1 for 2 and drove in three runs for the Poets.

 

Park Crossing 28, Robert E. Lee 20

Katelyn Kirk went 2 for 3 and drove in four runs and Kelsey Kirk went 2 for 4 and drove in six runs to lead the Thunderbirds to a 28-20 win over Robert E. Lee in the opening round of the 6A Area 3 tournament on Monday at Lagoon Park. 

Park Crossing scored eight runs in the fourth inning and eight more in the top of the seventh to hold off the Generals.
