PREP RECAP: PCA tops St. James; MA tennis opens season with wins

BOYS BASKETBALL
Prattville Christian 48, St. James 35
PRATTVILLE -- Jacob Comer led the Panthers with 26 points and four rebounds as PCA closed out the regular season on a winning note Friday night.
Carson Roberson added 10 points and seven rebounds, followed by Coleman Hunter with five points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
PCA (9-18) will be the fourth seed in the upcoming 3A Area 5 tournament and will travel to Montgomery to play Catholic in the opening round on Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the area tournament finals on Saturday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Prattville Christian 71, St. James 52
PRATTVILLE -- Prattville Christian used its size advantage in the paint to dominate the Trojans on Friday night with CoCo Thomas scoring 28 points and grabbing 16 rebounds and Hannah Jones scoring 15 points, grabbing 21 rebounds and handing out five assists.
Ella Jane Connell had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, followed by Avery Rogers with nine points and Makenna Simpson with five.
PCA (22-5) returns to action on Tuesday in Montgomery, facing second-seeded Trinity in the opening round of the 3A Area 5 tournament at 5:30 p.m. The winner earns a berth in the state playoffs and advances to the area tournament finals on Friday.
Brew Tech 46, LAMP 38
LAMP took a one-point lead with 5:25 remaining but Brewbaker Tech hit 12 of 18 free throws in the final period to escape with an eight-point win over the Golden Tigers in the Brew Tech gym on Friday night.
Caitlin Russell had 12 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead LAMP, followed by Mackenzie Lewis with 11 points. In a game dominated by defense, Ainsley Klein had six rebounds and six blocked shots to keep LAMP in the game, while teammate Grayson Dickert had four rebounds and three steals.
Jillian Baine led the Rams with 16 points, scoring 12 of those at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Kennedi McGhee added 12.
LAMP (5-9) earned the second seed in the 4A Area 5 tournament and will play host to BTW Magnet on Tuesday, with the winner earning a berth in the playoffs and a trip to the area tournament finals at Alabama Christian Academy on Friday.
Brew Tech will be the second seed in the 5A Area 5 tournament and will play host to Beauregard in the opening round of the area tournament on Tuesday, with the winner earning a berth in the playoffs and advancing to the area tournament finals on Friday.
BOYS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 8, McGill-Toolen 1
The Eagles opened the 2021 season with a convincing win over McGill-Toolen on Friday at Lagoon Park.
Singles winners for MA were Hamilton Chapman, Whit Davis, Guy Hughes, John Alford, Charlie Hill and Jackson Brown.
Winning doubles were Chapman-Davis and Alford-Brown.
Montgomery Academy (1-0) returns to action on Monday at home against Auburn High.
GIRLS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 9, McGill-Toolen 0
The Montgomery Academy girls opened the 2021 season with a shutout of McGill-Toolen on Friday at Lagoon Park.
Singles winners for the Eagles were Gabby Barrera, Jenna Chandler, Maemae Voltz, McRae Freeman, Clara Ryan and Marylee Kelso.
The doubles teams of Chandler-Voltz, Barrera-Freeman and Ryan-Kelso completed the sweep.
