PREP RECAP (Week 4): Prattville, Wetumpka, SE return to winning ways; Tallassee earns first win

Prattville 35, Dothan 0

PRATTVILLE – E.J. Ousley threw four touchdown passes, including three in the first half, as the Lions shut out Dothan at Stanley-Jensen Stadium on Friday.

Ousley’s touchdown passes gave the Lions a 22-0 halftime lead as they improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in region play while keeping the Wolves winless.

Prattville travels to Hoover next week.

Wetumpka 51, Benjamin Russell 31

ALEXANDER CITY – The Indians bounced back from last week’s disappointing last-second loss to upend homestanding Benjamin Russell in Class 6A, Region 3 action on Friday.

Robert Rose passed for 191 yards and two touchdowns, both to Doran Jackson, who finished with two catches for 105 yards. Jaedyn Peterson added 85 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Brando Bowman added a touchdown run for the Indians.

Jackson also had two interceptions to go along with five tackles. Justin Crumbaugh added an interception for a touchdown.

Wetumpka (3-2, 2-1) travels to Greenville next week in non-region action.

Stanhope Elmore 47, Chilton County 0

MILLBROOK – The Mustangs scored on the second play of the game and never looked back in their second win in Class 6A, Region 3 action Friday at Foshee-Henderson Stadium.

Teddy Harris tallied three touchdowns including a score on a 24-yard run early that began a big night for the offense. Quarterback Trey Killingsworth passed for two touchdowns to Harris and DJ McGhee. Harris added a 77-yard punt return and a 10-yard run for scores.

Amajhi Truss also had a rushing touchdown for Stanhope Elmore, which improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Class 6A, Region 3.

The Mustangs go to Eufaula next Friday.

Eufaula 33, Park Crossing 7

Hess Horne passed for five touchdowns to lead Eufaula to its first region win Friday at Cramton Bowl.

Horne used three different receivers with three scores from Rodarius Thomas (36, 82 and 22 yards), Devin Fuller (4 yards) and Ethan Black (23 yards). He finished with 407 yards on 20 of 31 attempts that also included an interception.

The Thunderbirds got little offensive production with Adaryll Lewis leading the way with 110 yards rushing, including a 61 yard run for the lone Park Crossing score.

Park Crossing (1-3, 1-2 6A/Region 2) has an open week before facing Sidney Lanier on Oct. 1.

Auburn 47, Jeff Davis 0

AUBURN – The Tigers scored 33 points in the second quarter to cruise past the Volunteers 47-0 at Duck Sanford Stadium on Friday night.

Quay Nelms had a pair of interceptions and Cameron Reese recorded a safety – Auburn’s fifth in five games – as the Tigers improved to 5-0 and remained unbeaten in 7A Region 2 play.

Jeff Davis (0-4) returns to Cramton Bowl to play G.W. Carver next Friday.

Opelika 24, G.W. Carver 7

OPELIKA – Ledamian Rowell had a pick-six late in the first half to break a 7-7 tie and lift the Bulldogs to a 24-7 win in a crucial 6A Region 2 matchup at Bulldog Stadium on Friday.

Marquarius Moore had brought the Wolverines back from a 7-0 deficit with a touchdown pass to tie the game before his interception gave the Bulldogs the lead for good.

Carver (2-2 overall and 2-1 in region play) returns home to play Jeff Davis at Cramton Bowl next Friday.

Valley 21, Sidney Lanier 6

VALLEY – Joshua Heath and Dalton Dunn scored touchdowns in the second half to help Valley pull away from the Poets in a defensive struggle for a 6A Region 2 victory.

Lanier (1-3 overall and 0-3 in region play) got a kickoff return for a touchdown by Jamarcus Hamilton to pull within 7-6 but the Poets’ offense was shut out on Friday night.

Lanier travels to Bessemer City next week.

Tallassee 49, Elmore County 21

ECLECTIC – Jalyn Daniels ran for 349 yards and scored five touchdowns on 20 carries as Tallassee exploded for 524 yards of total offense on the way to their first victory in a 5A Region 4 matchup at Burt-Haynie Field on Friday.

Daniels scored on a 5-yard run to put the Tigers in front 14-7, then added 27-yard scoring run to give the Tigers a 21-14 halftime lead.

Late in the third quarter, Daniels put his county rivals away, scoring on an 89-yard run late in the third quarter and a 37-yard run a minute into the fourth quarter for a 42-14 lead. Cade Everson added a 32-yard touchdown run for the Tigers’ final points.

Payton Stephenson gave the Panthers some early hope with a touchdown run to tie the game, rushing for 133 yards on 25 carries and completing 14 of 27 passes for 161 yards.

Tallassee (1-3 overall, 1-1 in region play) travels to Pike Road next week, while Elmore County (1-4, 0-3) remains home to face White Plains.  

Holtville 28, Talladega 14

TALLADEGA – The Bulldogs returned to winning form with a key region victory over Talladega Friday.

Sophomore running back Drew Pickett rushed for 273 yards and a touchdown to lead Holtville. Braxton Buck added a touchdown pass as Holtville piled up 396 yards of total offense.

Cade Law led the defense with an interception while Michael Forney had eight tackles.  Jacob Nichols and Lane Talley each had a sack.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 5A/Region 4) face Marbury next week in a non-region game.

Notasulga 37, Billingsley 10

NOTASULGA – For the second week in a row, Billingsley played a region foe even for the first two quarters before falling apart in the third quarter.

Last week, it was the Red Devils of Maplesville that turned a close game into a rout. This week, it was the Blue Devils of Notasulga who scored three touchdowns in the first six minutes of the second half to pull away for a 1A Region 4 victory on Friday.

Walter Tatum ran 29 yards for a touchdown, intercepted a pass to set up another score, then finished off the Bears with a 49-yard touchdown run.

Billingsley (2-3 overall and 0-3 in region play) will play host to Isabella next week.

Alabama Christian 40, Dale County 20

MIDLAND CITY – Jalen Clark completed 5 of 7 passes for 81 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles scored twice in the second quarter and two more times in the third to pull away from Dale County in a 4A Region 2 game on Friday night.

The Eagles (3-1 overall and 2-0 in region play) will now face St. James in a crucial region game next week at Carlisle Field in a game that was originally scheduled for Sept. 4 but was postponed by coronavirus.

Dale County (3-2) fell to 2-1 in region play.

Clark found the end zone with his arm, but did most of the damage with his feet, rushing for 152 yards on 22 carries. His first touchdown came on a 7-yard run midway through the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

After the Warriors scored to make it 7-6, Clark connected with Preston Hicks for 16 yards to start the second quarter, then threw another 16-yard touchdown pass, this one to Hayes Hunt, late in the first half for a 21-6 halftime lead.

The senior picked up where he left off with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Corey Landers late in the third quarter after Demari Moore had scored for the Eagles minutes earlier on an 8-yard run.

It was Landers’ only reception, but he had 18 carries for 112 yards in the game. Otasowie Dion, whose only other run in the game had covered 46 yards, ran 9 yards for a touchdown and a 40-6 lead with 5:17 left before the Warriors scored a pair of touchdowns against the ACA reserves in the final minutes.

Dion led the ACA defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery, while Khalil Jackson had seven tackles and a sack and Miller McCarthy and Jack Thomas had five tackles each.

The game was delayed for more than an hour due to a power outage.

Trinity 26, Pike County 0

Grayden Flowers opened the scoring with field goals 32 and 36 yards to lead the Wildcats to an important Class 3A, Area 4 victory Friday at Ragsdale-Boykin Field.

Coleman Stanley, Mac McClinton and Chase Letner each had touchdown runs for the Wildcats (3-1, 3-0).

Trinity is open next week before facing Reeltown on Oct. 2.

Catholic 41, Beulah 7

Caleb McCreary passed for five touchdowns to lead the Knights to the easy win in Class 3A, Area 4 win Friday night.

McCreary connected with DJ Carter three times on passes of 29, 24 and 14 yards. He added TD passes to Jamarion Augustus (44 yards) and Myles Butler for 41 yards. He finished with 190 yards passing for the game.

Jeremiah Cobb added a 10-yard rush for a score.

Catholic (4-1, 3-0) faces Montgomery Academy next Friday.
