PREP ROUNDUP: St. James baseball earns area win; Catholic softball wins area opener

BASEBALL
St. James 14, Pike Road 5
Brock Woodham went 4 for 4, driving in five runs and scoring three more to lead the Trojans to a 14-5 win over Pike Road in a 3A Area 5 game on Thursday.
St. James improved to 2-1 in area play with the win and will face the Patriots in a doubleheader today at St. James to close out the three-game series.
Carson Howard and Alex Whisenhunt each went 3 for 5 for the Trojans as part of a 19-hit attack. Collier Dean went 3 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs and Ethan Beard and Wilson Carter both went 2 for 5 as the Trojans built a 4-0 lead before scoring four runs in the top of the sixth and six more in the seventh.
Whisenhunt doubled and Howard drove him in with a single to make it 5-0, Woodham added an RBI double and Carter’s bunt led to one of four Pike Road errors that allowed two more runs to score for an 8-0 lead.
Baron Brack, who went 3 for 4, had an RBI single, CJ Paymon reached on an error that allowed another run to score and Eli Clark doubled in a pair of runs to cut the Trojan lead in half, only to see St. James answer with six more runs in a sloppy seventh.
The Trojans led off the inning with four consecutive singles, the last by Woodham driving in a pair of runs. An error on the plate allowed another run to score and three more runs scored on wild pitches.
LAMP 7, Holtville 2
HOLTVILLE – Walker Morgan took the mound for the first time this season and held the Bulldogs to a pair of unearned runs to lead the Golden Tigers to a 7-2 win on Thursday.
Both Morgan and his reliever, Landen Lockwood, have been held out of action for much of this season. Morgan, pitching for the first time, allowed just three hits over five innings. Lockwood, who has been limited this season, pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
Trace Deloney went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs to lead LAMP. Todd Davis also went 2 for 4, scoring two runs and driving in another, and Oliver Stephens went 2 for 2 and scored a run.
For Holtville, Hunter Martin went 3 for 3 with a double and Todd Wilson went 1 for 3, driving in Payton Coburn and Tanner Potts in the fifth after an error kept the inning alive.
LAMP scored a run in the first when Davis singled in Deloney, another in the second on a Lance Phung sacrifice fly and another in the third when Harrison Hall singled in Davis. After Holtville trimmed the deficit to a run, LAMP responded with three runs in the sixth. Singles by Stephens and Harrison Turner, followed by a walk loaded the bases. A two-out error allowed one run to score and Deloney followed with a two-run single.
Tallassee 5, Prattville Christian 4
TALLASSEE – The Tigers scored three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to wipe out a 4-0 deficit and rally past Prattville Christian 5-4 at Southside Middle School on Thursday.
Zac Haynes got the rally started in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff home run to left field. Drake Bonner had a two-out, two-run single to center to draw the Tigers within a run in the sixth.
In the seventh, Haynes and Bobby Baker drew walks to lead off the bottom half of the inning. William Blocker later singled in Haynes to tie the game and Clayten Gough followed soon after with a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.
Benjamin Echols and Stillman Davis each went 2 for 3 as the Panthers built a 4-0 lead with three runs in the fifth. Jack Ryan Fulford was hit by a pitch and Tanner Byrd, Echols and James Chancey all followed with singles to score a run. Jackson Reed and Reese Starnes each followed with sacrifice flies to increase the PCA lead to 4-0.
Marciano Smith pitched the seventh to pick up the win for the Tigers.
Catholic 16, Jeff Davis 1
Christian Ivey went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, scoring three times and driving in three runs as the Knights toyed with Jeff Davis 16-1 on Thursday.
Ivey and Hudson Parrish led off the bottom of the first with doubles, an indication of the type of day the Volunteers would face. Pat Ryan doubled in Spencer Bach and later scored on a groundout for a 4-0 lead.
Nathan Downes singled in a run to help make it 6-0 in the second inning and two-run singles by Ivey and Bach helped the Knights to an 11-0 lead in the third.
Bach went 1 for 3, scored twice and drove in three runs and Austin Cleghorn went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in a run as the Knights were aided by four walks and three hit batters in a four-run fourth inning that brought a merciful end to the game.
Morris Carmichael pitched the first two innings for the win, allowing just one hit. Marcus Dees pitched the final two innings of no-hit relief, allowing a run in the third.
SOFTBALL
Catholic 13, Trinity 3
McKenzie Norton went 3 for 4 and both Alanna Aiken and Nikki Walker went 3 for 3 to lead Catholic to an easy win at Trinity in the 4A Area 4 opener for both teams on Thursday.
Norton scored a pair of runs, Aiken scored three runs and drove in two more and Walker scored a run and drove in four as part of a 17-hit attack that saw the Knights take a 13-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
Mallory Hildebraid went 2 for 3 for Catholic and Auburn Wilcoxson went 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI. Aiken got the win in the circle, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work.
Linda Hill went 2 for 3 and Lilly Yancey went 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead the Wildcats.
St. James 5, Alabama Christian 4
Hannah Grace Griggs, Morgan Parish, Bellah Bright and Maddox Trumbly all recorded hits in the sixth inning and KK Hall delivered the sacrifice RBI to drive in the game-winning run as the Trojans used a four-run sixth inning to defeat the Eagles 5-4 on Thursday.
Savannah Christian picked up the win in relief. Cam Greene pitched the first four innings and Christian pitched the final three, allowing one run, for St. James (6-3).
LAMP 4, Charles Henderson 0
TROY – Caitlin Russell allowed just three hits and struck out 15 of the remaining 18 batters she faced to help the Golden Tigers to a 4-0 win over the Trojans on Thursday.
Russell also scored the game’s final run on a groundout to cap a three-run fifth that put the game out of reach.
Joanna Joiner went 2 for 3 and scored a run and Haidyn Foley went 2 for 4 and scored a run while driving in another for LAMP. Foley doubled and later scored on a passed ball in the first inning for a 1-0 lead and Joiner singled and later scored in the fifth. Peyton Cely scored on a Gracie Norris bunt to force across the game’s third run.
Tuscaloosa Academy 9, Evangel Christian School 7
TUSCALOOSA -- Emma Price was the winning pitcher for the Knights and helped at the plate with three doubles, three RBIs and a pair of runs to defeat the Alabaster school.
Meredith Taylor had a triple, a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, Claire Roberts had a single, an RBI and a run scored, Wilesha Lang had a double and 3 runs scored and Ella Kate Coker had a single and an RBI for Tuscaloosa Academy. Christina Sealy has a single and a run scored, Libbi Cate Stell had a single and two RBIs and Kendall Tillery had a single for the Knights.
GIRLS TENNIS
Catholic 5, LAMP 4
LAMP won the top four singles positions, but Catholic made the points count by winning two singles matches and sweeping the doubles to edge the Tigers on Monday at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
LAMP winners were No. 1 Teri Kim, No. 2 Kathleen Doyle, No. 3 Jennifer Kim and No. 4 Pearl Khotsombath, but the Knights won at No. 5 singles with Angela Gier and at No. 6 with Gracie Barranco.
Catholic then swept the doubles play with Grayson Howell-Ella Newell at No. 1, Landry Samuels-Gier at No. 2 and Rachel Rodriguez-Barranco at No. 3.
Catholic 9, Pike Road 0
Catholic swept the singles and doubles competition in beating Pike Road on Friday at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
Winning in singles was No. 1 Grayson Howell, No. 2 Ella Newell, No. 3 Landry Samuels, No. 4 Rachel Rodriguez, No. 5 Angela Gier and No. 6 Gracie Barranco.
The doubles teams of Howell-Newell, Samuels-Gier and Rodriguez-Barranco won as well.
GIRLS SOCCER
Trinity 8, Catholic 0
Mary Davis Bricken scored three goals to lead the Wildcats to an easy 8-0 win over the Knights on Thursday.
Mary Alice Sasser and Healey Mathison added two goals each and Katherine Warren also had a goal.
Caroline Parkman recorded the shutout.
Montgomery Academy 8, Alabama Christian Academy 0
The Montgomery Academy girls soccer team continued their shutout streak with an impressive 8-0 victory over a previously unbeaten ACA team.
Hayes Jenkins was the star of the show, scoring five goals. Virginia Meachum, Kaitlin Phenix and Sophia Cho rounded off the scoring. Millie Stevenson got the shutout in goal for the Eagles.
Prattville Christian 7, Chilton County 0
CLANTON -- Kathleen Cary led the Lady Panthers with three goals and Avery Rogers added a pair of goals as the Panthers improved to 6-0 with a shutout of 6A Chilton County on Thursday.
Elle Tice had a pair of assists for PCA, Emily Branch had a goal and an assist and Brooke Callicott scored a goal. Sarah Branch and Riley Johnson each had one assist.
Jenna Stilling had four saves and combined with Sydney West for the shutout in goal.
BOYS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 6, Alabama Christian 0
Alex Kohn and Femi Adediji each scored a pair of goals as Montgomery Academy won a 6-0 shutout at Alabama Christian on Thursday before going on spring break.
Kohn’s goals were assisted by Thomas Rizzo and Ben Thakston. Clisby Berry added a goal with an assist from Kohn and Adediji scored one goal on a penalty kick and another with an assist from Ruston Bassett. Rizzo added a goal with an assist by Kohn.
Montgomery Academy (9-2) improved to 4-0 in area play.
Trinity 1, Catholic 0
Luke Adams scored the game’s only goal to lift Trinity to a 1-0 win over Catholic on Thursday.
Chilton County 6, Prattville Christian 2
CLANTON -- Jake Davis led the Panthers with two goals scored as the 6A Tigers rolled past PCA on Thursday. JD Meadows and Matt Lisle each had an assist and Grant Scott had 10 saves in goal for PCA (3-1-1).
In the junior varsity game, Chase Gay and Nolan Hadden each scored a goal to lead the Panthers over Chilton County 2-1. Liam Taylor had an assist and Dawson Thweatt had 10 saves in goal for PCA (2-1-1).
