BOYS BASKETBALL

Trinity 59, Holtville 21

The Wildcats jumped out to a 25-4 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 59-21 win over the Bulldogs at Captain Jack Court on Tuesday.

John Morris led the Wildcats with 21 points. Cooper Bernier added 12, hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Elijah Headley led the Bulldogs with seven points.

Trinity (8-1) plays host to Montgomery Academy on Friday.

 

Stanhope Elmore 72, Prattville Christian 52

MILLBROOK -- Cody Chapman led the Panthers with 26 points in a 72-52 loss on Tuesday night in the Stanhope Elmore gym.

Carter Fiacco added nine points and eight rebounds, followed by Justin Chapman with eight points and five rebounds and Wade Mora with six points and five rebounds. Ethan Girlie dished out five assists. PCA (2-9) will play Marbury on Thursday in the Autauga County Tournament in Marbury.

In the junior varsity game, CJ Robinson scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Prattville Christian’s 57-31 loss to the Mustangs. Murray Wright added seven points and eight rebounds. Ethan Kiefer dished out five assists and Spencer Wilson dished out four for PCA (2-6), which will return to action on Jan. 4 at home against American Christian.

 

Hooper Academy 57, Macon East Academy 27

CECIL -- Hooper Academy used a 22-point first quarter to jump on the Knights, then held them to 10 points over the next two quarters for a 57-27 win on Tuesday night in the Macon East gym.

Luke Moseley led the Colts with 12 points, followed by Christ McCoy with 11 and Kaleb Jackson with eight.

Jackson Todd led Macon East with eight points. The Knights travel to Lakeside School on Thursday.

Hooper Academy (9-0) travels to Chambers Academy on Thursday.

 

Montgomery Academy 47, Dallas County 29 (suspended)

PLANTERSVILLE -- The Eagles built an 18-point lead at halftime of their area opener, but the game was suspended at that point due to unplayable conditions in the Dallas County gym on Tuesday night.

The playing surface became unsafe and play was suspended at halftime because of the rain and humidity. A completion date to play the second half has not been set.

Through the first half of play, Skyler Stovall had 13 points, three rebounds and three steals. Braden Gordon also had 13 points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists while Jarrett Friendly had 10 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots. Brewer Welch had eight assists in the first half as well as three steals and four rebounds.

 

Trinity 57, Elmore County 39

The Wildcats pulled away with a 16-7 run in the third quarter and defeated the Panthers 57-39 on Monday night at Captain Jack Court.

John Morris led a balanced attack with 12 points, including nine in the first quarter. Brady Bennett also had 12 points, followed by Wilson Cherry with 11 points and Patton Mitchell with eight.

Jaden Eason led Elmore County with 14 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and two more in the second to keep the game close. Seth McGhee added 11 points, including seven in the second half.

Trinity (7-1) remains home to play Holtville on Tuesday and Montgomery Academy on Friday.

Hooper Academy 84, Crenshaw Christian 41

HOPE HULL -- Nolan Cole scored 16 of his 31 points in the first quarter as the Colts galloped out to a 31-7 lead over Crenshaw Christian in the first quarter on the way to an 84-41 win in Darrell Selg Gym on Monday.

Cole added five points in the second quarter to help Hooper to a 48-22 lead, then poured in 10 more in the third period as the Colts extended their lead to 67-30.

Sam Moss added 12 points on four 3-pointers, followed by Casen Dunlap, who hit three 3s in the fourth quarter to finish with nine points. Luke Moseley added eight.

Kenny Shirley led Crenshaw Christian with 18 points, followed by Dreytan Dickey with 12.

 

Alabama Christian 65, Tallassee 51

TALLASSEE --- Christian Snipes scored 19 points to help the Eagles defeat Tallassee 65-51 in the Tallassee gym on Monday.

Tallassee led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter and 28-26 at the half before Snipes, who had 13 of his 19 points in the second half, helped rally ACA. Mac Moorer added 14 points and AC Walters had 13.

Jaiden Gordon had 16 points to lead Tallassee (3-2), followed by Rush Wright with 11 and Simeon Parker with eight.

ACA (6-2) returns home to play host to Autauga Academy on Thursday before traveling to Loachapoka on Friday.

 

Evangel Christian Academy 47, Springwood School 39

Tylon Shine scored 13 points and Jordan Duncan added 11 points to lead Evangel to the win over Springwood on Monday.

Shine had five assists and grabbed nine rebounds while Duncan had one assist, three rebounds and two steals. Mekhi Williams chipped in nine points, one assist, four rebounds and one steal. Desi Stovall and Markeith Fallin both finished with double-digit rebounds. Stovall grabbed 12 rebounds and six points and Fallin grabbed 10 rebounds and four points.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 58, Dallas County 22

PLANTERSVILLE -- Caroline Waller scored a game-high 20 points to help the Eagles snap a five-game losing skid and win their area opener at Dallas County on Tuesday.

Montgomery Academy led 39-7 at the half, getting nine points from point guard Kaci Armistead, seven from eighth grader Bailey Davis and six each from EG Hines and Olivia Smith. Eighth grader Garland Thomas added five points and Talley Hamilton and Sophia Cho each had two.

Montgomery Academy (2-6, 1-0 in area play) returns home to play Class 7A Auburn on Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

St. James 68, Pike Road 34

Natalie Barton led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans coasted to a 68-34 win over Pike Road on Tuesday in the Trojans’ gym.

The 24 points pushed the sophomore guard past the 1,000-point career mark.

Kaitlin Mitchell added 17 points, followed by Sydney Johnston with eight points, four steals and four assists and Morgan Lilly with seven points and eight assists.  

St. James (11-1) will travel to BTW Magnet on Thursday.  

 

Macon East Academy 45, Hooper Academy 33

CECIL -- Jamya Powell had 24 points, 16 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot to help the Knights hand Hooper Academy its first loss of the season on Tuesday night in the Macon East gym.

Maya Tatum added 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, nine steals and a blocked shot for the Knights, which travel to Eufaula on Thursday to play Lakeside School.

Hooper Academy (9-1) travels to Chambers Academy on Thursday.

 

Park Crossing 75, Catholic 47

The Thunderbirds broke open a tough game in the fourth quarter and defeated the Knights 75-47 in the Park Crossing gym on Tuesday.

The game was tight until the Knights lost two starters to foul trouble midway through the fourth quarter and were unable to handle the fullcourt pressure.

Hannah Smith led Catholic with 15 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and three blocks, followed by Heaven Bailey with 11 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals.

Kierstyn Green added eight points for the Knights.

Park Crossing was led by Saniya Jackson with 29 points and Meliyah Meeks with 14 points.

Catholic (5-3) will travel to Brew Tech on Friday.

Hooper Academy 58, Crenshaw Christian 14

HOPE HULL -- Grace Seale had 16 points, three rebounds and four steals to lead the Colts to a 58-14 win over Crenshaw Christian on Monday at Darrell Self Gym.

Katie Robinson added 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist, followed by Jade Taylor with eight points, one rebound, one steal and one assist, Ashbee Norman with two points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists and Raylee Midkiff with four points, one rebound and four steals.

 

Alabama Christian 49, Tallassee 42

TALLASSEE -- Katelyn Sutton scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers in the second quarter, to lead the Eagles to their seventh consecutive win in a 49-42 victory in the Tallassee gym on Monday night.

Jaide Newkirk added 11 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, after Tallassee had cut a 13-point halftime deficit to nine points heading into the final period. Campbell Hammett added eight points, followed by A’Kirra McElveen with six.

Jhakhia Anderson had nine points and London O’Neal added eight for Tallassee (4-2).

ACA (7-1) returns home to play host to Autauga Academy on Thursday before traveling to Loachapoka on Friday.

 

WRESTLING

PCA opens home dual meet schedule with loss to St. James

PRATTVILLE -- The PCA wrestling team opened its home dual meet schedule on Tuesday night against the St. James Trojans, losing 46-36.

The Panthers picked up wins by Ryan Lueck, Elijah Harris, Brysen Pugh, Spencer Perkins, Bryson Bowman and Logan Wesch.  

The varsity team will travel this Friday to take part in the two day Gene Taylor Invitational at Weaver High School.  

Catholic places fifth in Lil Stinger 5 at Beauregard

BEAUREGARD -- Patrick Sikes and Joshua Parker both placed second to help the Knights to a fifth-place finish in the 11-team Lil Stinger 5 at Beauregard High on Saturday.

Smiths Station won the event with 236 points, followed by Wetumpka (180), Auburn (147.5), Tallassee (114), Catholic (107) and Elmore County (88.5).

Sikes placed second in the 85-pound weight class, while Parker was second in the 112-pound division. Copeland Taylor was third in the 145-pound division, Luke Reeves was fourth in the 125-pound division, Cytrus Rudolph was fourth in the 135-pound class and Andrew Pitts was fourth in the 175-pound division.
