PREP UPDATE: Brew Tech softball advances to area final; PCA beats ACA in soccer

SOFTBALL

Brew Tech advances to 5A, Area 4 tourney final

Brewbaker Tech earned two wins over Greenville and Holtville to advance to the Class 5A, Area 4 tournament finals at Lagoon Park.

The Lady Rams defeated Greenville, 15-0, in the first game. They had 13 hits led by Kaymarria Bandy who went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Peyton Garrett was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs; Khamiyah Brown went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and a triple; Taliah July went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Taniyah Brown and Kyra Wallace teamed up to throw a one-hit shutout.

Brew Tech followed with a 15-0 win over Holtville.

The Lady Rams followed with a 15-0 win over Holtville. Taniyah Brown, Taliah July, and Gabbie York all had home runs in the win.

Taniyah Brown had two hits including a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kaymarria Bandy, Grace Hunter and Peyton Garrett each had two hits. Taniyah Brown threw three innings and did not allow a hit.

Brew Tech will play in the championship game today at Lagoon Park.

BOYS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 4, Alabama Christian 2

Cade Segars scored three goals to lead the Panthers to a 4-2 win over the Eagles in the first round of the 1A-3A state playoffs at Alabama Christian on Monday night.

Cohen Palmore added a goal and an assist.  

PCA (7-10-1) advances to the quarterfinals later this week, playing host to the winner of Tuesday’s Tuscaloosa Academy-St. James game.

 

BOYS GOLF

Trinity wins section tournament, advances to sub-state round

Whit Bixenman shot a 78 on a windy day to capture low medalist honors and lead Trinity to the 3A Section 2 championship at Arrowhead on Monday.

Montgomery Academy’s Breland Burnham was next with an 80, followed by Eagle teammate McRae Foshee with an 81.

Advancing to next week’s South sub-state round were Trinity, second-place Montgomery Academy, third-place St. James and fourth-place Dadeville.  

Alabama Christian had two players advance as individuals, Cooper Waldo and Josh Kreitz, along with Montgomery Academy’s Joe Drumwright.

Burnham and Foshee were joined by William Hall (83), Thomas Floyd (85) and Mac Freeman (87), while Drumwright’s 90 was good enough to advance as an individual score.

The South sub-state round will be held at Lagoon Park on Monday.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Trinity wins section tournament, advances to sub-state round

Trinity’s Eden Pendleton was second with an 80 and Virginia Anne Holmes were third with an 81 to help Trinity win the 4A-5A Section 1 golf championship over seven other teams on a windy day at Arrowhead on Monday.

Orange Beach’s Alley Beth Waldrop was the low medalist at 75, followed by Pendleton and Holmes. Runner-up Orange Beach will advance to next Monday’s South sub-state round at Lagoon Park, along with third-place Bayside Academy and fourth-place St. Paul’s Episcopal.

Individuals advancing to South sub-state include Elberta’s Olivia Akins, Gulf Shores’ Ray Pepperman, Faith Academy’s Kathy Hacker and Andalusia’s Katie Kennedy.
