Lakeside girls win AISA cross country title

AUBURN -- Chloe Helms ran the Kiesel Park course in 21:20 on Wednesday to take first place in the Alabama Independent School Association’s state cross country meet and help her Lakeside School Chiefs win back-to-back championships in the event.

Helms won the event last year as well.

The race was pushed back nearly two hours because of inclement weather and the participants finally ran the course in moderate rainfall.

Addy Helms ran a personal record time of 24:53 to finish behind Chloe Helms, followed by Anna Peak in fifth place with a time of 28:13, Eliza Erickson (29:46) in seventh, Rebecca Neville (30:21) in eighth and Carlee Davis with a personal record time of 30:21 to finish ninth for the Chiefs.

The Lakeside boys were led at the meet by Evan Sellers, who finished in eighth place with a time of 21:05, giving him back-to-back top 10 finishes in the championship race. Tucker Stevenson finished 23rd with a time of 24:32.

The Lakeside junior varsity boys participated in the 3K meet (2.1mile), led by John Peak’s seventh-place finish with a personal-best time of 13:19). The other Chiefs finishing the race included Logan Clark’s personel-best time of 14:17 for 17th place, Lawson Raines’ personal-record time of 15:57 for 23rd place, Michael Hamilton’s time of 16:30 for 26th place and Sanders Raines’ time of 16:39 for 27th. 

The Lakeside junior varsity girls had 3 participants, led by Addy Berry’s 17th-place finish with a time of 18:38. Skylynn Clark was 19th with a time of 18:42 and Ava Witcher’s personal-best time of 19:08 was good for 21st place.

Pike Road repeats as volleyball area champs

PIKE ROAD - The Lady Patriots swept the Class 6A, Area 4 tournament, defeating St. James in the finals on Thursday.

In the tourney, Taylor Robinson led with 24 kills. four digs, five blocks and four aces for Pike Road. Allie Lovrich added 20 kills, 13 digs, four aces and a block. Rylie Fureigh had 31 assists, eight aces and seven digs. Caroline Davis had 22 assists, four aces and three digs. Lola Gorman had 32 digs, three aces, seven assists.

Both Pike Road and St. James will play in the South Super Regional at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex on Wednesday. Pike Road is scheduled to face Briarwood Christian at 2 p.m. while St. James will face Pelham at 3:30 p.m.
