PREP UPDATE: PCA beats American Christian in OT; LAMP boys topple Ellwood

BOYS BASKETBALL
Prattville Christian 62, American Christian 59 (OT)
PRATTVILLE -- Cody Chapman led the Panthers with 21 points and eight rebounds as PCA won Saturday’s area game in overtime.
Easton Miller added 10 points and nine rebounds for PCA, followed by Justin Chapman with eight points and seven rebounds, Carter Fiacco with seven points and nine rebounds and Ethan Girlie with six points, seven assists and four rebounds. Sam Wheeler also scored six points, while Wade Mora had four points and nine rebounds.
PCA (5-15) improved to 2-0 in area play and snapped a four-game losing skid with the win. The Panthers will travel to Holt for an area game on Tuesday.
In the junior varsity game, CJ Robinson led the Panthers with 29 points and 23 rebounds as PCA fell short, 51-47, in overtime. Murray Wright added 12 points and 11 rebounds, including a shot from behind halfcourt to send the game into overtime. Ethan Kiefer added five points, five rebounds and four assists and Spencer Wilson added five rebounds and four assists. Carter Montgomery grabbed five rebounds for PCA (2-7).
LAMP 56, Ellwood Christian 47
Benedict Akwuba scored 13 of his 24 points in the second half to help the Golden Tigers extend their three-point halftime lead in a 56-47 win over Ellwood Christian in the LAMP gym on Saturday.
Ezekial Griffin added 15 points and TJ English had 13 as the Golden Tigers won for the fourth time in the last six games.
Xavier Franklin led Ellwood Christian with 13 points.
LAMP (8-9) travels to Tuskegee to play Booker T. Washington on Tuesday in a 4A Area 5 game before returning home to play host to Trinity in an area game on Friday.
Westminster-Oak Mountain 63, Alabama Christian 59
The two teams staged a wild third-quarter battle, but in the end Alabama Christian couldn’t make up the seven-point halftime deficit and fell to Westminster-Oak Mountain 63-59 in the ACA gym on Saturday.
ACA outscored Westminster 14-7 in the first quarter but was outscored 20-6 in the second quarter. The Eagles used a 25-point explosion in the third quarter, but it only reduced the Westminster lead by a point as Thomas Fleming scored 11 of his 15 points in the third quarter and Clayton Connor scored seven of his 17 points in the third quarter.
ACA’s third-quarter offense was led by Jayden Jones, who scored 11 of his 14 points in the third quarter, and Connor Mark, who scored seven of his nine in the third period.
Mac Moorer led the Eagles with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Christian Snipes added 12.
ACA (9-7) travels to Montgomery Academy on Tuesday.
TALLASSEE -- Cameron Lewis hit five 3-pointers to help the Lions defeat the Tigers 70-36 in the Tallassee gym on Friday night.
Lewis was 5 of 8 from behind the arc, finishing with 17 points, two rebounds, an assist and a pair of steals.
Xavier Dunn also had 17 points, along with seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Jadon Autuneh-el had 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Prattville (8-12) returns to 7A Area 5 play this week, hosting Tuscaloosa County on Tuesday and Thompson on Friday in Powell Gym.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Prattville Christian 85, American Christian 15
PRATTVILLE -- Jenna McClendon had 31 points, 16 rebounds and four steals to lead Prattville Christian to a 70-point area victory on Saturday afternoon.
Kayden Carr had a triple double against the Patriots, scoring 25 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists.
Ally Blankinchip added 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals, followed by Reagan Houston with six points and four steals and Laney Little with four points and seven rebounds. Avery Mann and Avery Mora each scored three points.
PCA (12-8) improved to 2-0 in area play and got back on the winning track after losing four of its last five games. The Panthers will travel to Holt for an area game on Tuesday.
Alabama Christian 61, Westminster-Oak Mountain 40
The Eagles broke a tie game with a 19-4 run in the second quarter to defeat Westminster-Oak Mountain on Saturday in the ACA gym.
Katelyn Sutton scored 21 points with five 3-pointers, along with six assists and five rebounds to lead the Eagles. Jaide Newkirk added 20 points, including a 7 of 8 performance at the free-throw line, along with nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Evelyn Tankersley had 10 rebounds and three steals to go with six points.
ACA (15-2) travels to Montgomery Academy on Tuesday for a 3A Area 5 matchup.
WRESTLING
PCA finishes 10th in Julian McPhillips Invitational
Prattville Christian Academy finished 10th in the 16-team Julian McPhillips Invitational on Saturday at St. James, but came away with two medals in the prestigious event.
Junior Brysen Pugh finished third at 150 pounds and freshman Bryson Bowman was the weight class champion at 215 pounds.
PCA travels to American Christian Academy on Tuesday to take part in a tri-match with ACA and Dora. Wrestling starts at 6 p.m.
