PREP UPDATE: PCA girls advance in 4A Central regional; LAMP baseball wins fourth straight

PCA girls 69, Bibb County 23

Kayden Carr hit back-to-back 3-pointers to wipe out a 4-3 deficit and the Prattville Christian girls were off and running, scoring the next 15 points on the way to a 69-23 win over Dora in the 4A Central Regional semifinals at Birmingham’s Bill Harris Arena on Monday morning.

Prattville Christian (26-7) will face the Bibb County-Hale County winner on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for the Central Regional championship, with the winner advancing to the state semifinals on Feb. 27 in Legacy Arena.

The Panthers unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers on Dora, going on a 36-2 run over a nine-minute span after falling behind 4-3. Carr hit 6 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc, while Avery Rogers went 4 of 7. PCA also got 3-pointers from Ally Blankinchip and Baylee Rogers during that run.

Carr finished with 26 points, hitting eight 3-pointers and pulling down six rebounds. Avery Rogers had 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out a game-high six assists. Baylee Rogers hit four 3-pointers and added 12 points and Blankinchip had six points, a game-high 10 rebounds and five assists.

Bella Reese led Dora (23-7) with 14 points.

BASEBALL

LAMP 4, Montgomery Academy 0

Freshman Oliver Blackburn finished with four hits and four RBIs and senior Andrew Lutz added three hits and drove in four as the LAMP baseball team picked up an 18-5 victory at Montgomery Academy’s Bowen Field on Monday.

LAMP improved to 4-0 overall and has now outscored its opponents 61-9 on the year. Last week, the Tigers picked up a pair of victories over JAG on Thursday before defeating Park Crossing on Saturday in the championship game of the MPS Baseball Tournament.

In Monday’s game, LAMP jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back, taking advantage of seven MA errors in the contest. Junior Blair Davenport, making his season debut, also drove in three runs. Fellow junior Luke Littlejohn finished with two hits and scored a game-high five times.

Senior Carter Lehman tossed five innings, scattering four hits and allowing just one earned run, to improve to 2-0 on the year. Lehman threw a two-hit shutout in the Tigers’ opener against JAG on Thursday, en-route to earning all-tournament honors. Freshman Matthew Lutz also earned all-tournament team accolades after driving in six runs in the three games.

Montgomery Academy (0-1) had just five hits. John Allen Jones had a pair of RBIs and Chapman Baker and Will Hardin each drove in a run. Hardin, the first of five MA pitchers, took the loss, allowing six hits and eight runs, two earned, in 2.2 innings while walking two and striking out two.

The Eagles remain home to play Brew Tech on Wednesday before traveling to Thorsby on Friday.

LAMP will continue a busy week by hosting Wetumpka at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and St. James on Thursday before traveling to Tallassee on Friday.

 

Lee-Scott Academy 9, Edgewood 1

AUBURN -- Ethan Hardee and Harrison Short combined on a four hitter as the Warriors won their 2024 home opener on Monday, defeating Edgewood 9-1.

Hardee pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out six. Short pitched the final 2.1 innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit.

Brandon Martin went 1 for 1 with a double, scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Garrett West went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Allen Owen went 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs scored, Sam Jackson went 1 for 4 with a double and a pair of runs scored, Hardee went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Haiden Harper went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Lee-Scott (2-1) will be back in action this weekend at a tournament at Edgewood.
