PREP UPDATE: Prattville flag football falters in semis; MA, Tallassee basketball split

MARBURY -- Central eased out to a 21-point halftime lead and went on to defeat Prattville 34-6 in the 6A-7A semifinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s state flag football playoffs at Marbury High on Thursday night.
Central-Phenix City (17-0) will play Vestavia Hills for the 6A-7A state championship at the Super 7 Championships at the University of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.
Prattville ends the season at 14-6, snapping a four-game winning streak in the process. Three of the Lions’ six losses were to the Red Devils.
The game was played at Marbury High School because of construction at Stanley-Jensen Stadium.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Montgomery Academy 68, Tallassee 63
TALLASSEE -- Montgomery Academy overcame a two-point halftime deficit with 24 points, five rebounds and five assists from Skyler Stovall as the Eagles won their 2023-24 season opener with a 68-63 win over the 5A Tigers on Thursday night in the Tallassee gym.
Seth Edwards added 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists to help the Eagles pull out the win, followed by DJ Vinson with 13 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots. Brewer Welch added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Jarrett Friendly chipped in with nine rebounds and Camp Fiore grabbed seven rebounds.
MA (1-0) will play on Friday against Chilton County in their home opener.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Tallassee 45, Montgomery Academy 43
TALLASSEE -- Montgomery Academy made a late run at the Tigers with a 17-point fourth quarter but fell just short in a 45-43 loss in the Tallassee gym on Thursday night.
Olivia Smith scored 13 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, for the Eagles. Kaci Armistead, Sophia Cho and EG Hines all had six points for Montgomery Academy (0-1), which returns home to play Chilton County in its 2023-24 home opener.
