PREP UPDATE: Trinity softball clobbers Pike County; St. James boys soccer earns shut out

SOFTBALL
Trinity 16, Pike County 6
The Wildcats used 19 hits to pound Pike County 16-6 in the 2025 home opener on a chilly Thursday afternoon.
In the circle, Marley Sharpless and Mae Mae Milton threw 3 innings each with Sharpless walking three and striking out five and Milton striking out one batter.
At the plate, Micaiah Shelton went 5 for 5 with five RBIs, including three doubles and two triples. Emma Rose Meldrum and were each 3 for 4 with Meldrum scoring four times and driving in two runs. Evie Knight and Sharpless each had two hits and multiple runs batted in.
Every Wildcat starter recorded at least one hit in the game.
Trinity (2-0) will open play in the Trojan Invitational at Lagoon Park Softball Complex on Friday against Autauga Academy at 4 p.m., followed by Maplesville at 7 p.m. The Wildcats will return to the park on Saturday for single-elimination bracket play starting at 10 a.m.
BASEBALL
Clarke Prep 12, Hooper Academy 0
GROVE HILL -- Clarke Prep jumped on the Colts for nine runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 12-0 win on Thursday afternoon.
Connor Bumpers went 3 for 3 and three RBIs, including a double and a two-run single to center in the first inning and another single to center in the second inning.
Cooper Clemmons picked up the win, allowing no hits and no runs in two innings while striking out six and walking one.
Jeremy Griggs went 1 for 2 to lead the Colts.
Hooper Academy (1-1) travels to Patrician Academy on Friday.
Hooper Academy 10, Sparta Academy 6
EVERGREEN -- Hooper Academy rallied from an early deficit to beat Sparta Academy 10-6 on Tuesday.
Hooper grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Sparta rebounded to take a 3-1 lead with two runs in the first and another in the second. The Colts took the lead for good with a five-run fifth inning. Sam Moss tripled in a pair of runs to tie the game and Ellis Flemming followed with a fielder’s choice to drive in a run and give the Colts a 4-3 lead,
Cason Dunlap went 2-for-2 while Moss and Flemming each drove in a pair of runs.
BOYS SOCCER
St. James 8, Prattville Christian 0
PRATTVILLE -- Prattville Christian was shut out in its season opener at Panther Stadium on Thursday, losing to St. James 8-0. PCA (0-1) will play host to Julian on Friday at 7 p.m.
In the junior varsity game Nolan Currier scored two goals for the Panthers in a 3-2 loss to the Trojans. PCA (2-1) will host Millbrook on Monday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Marbury 49, Briarwood Christian 42
Justice Blackmon scored 21 points and the Bulldog defense held Briarwood Christian to three points in the third quarter to give Marbury a 49-42 win in the 5A Central Regional final at Alabama State’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Tuesday.
Marbury (19-6) will play Ramsay in the 5A semifinals on Wednesday at Birmingham’s BJCC Legacy Arena.
The Bulldogs’ only other trip to the state tournament came in 2021 when they lost to Carver-Birmingham in the semifinals.
Blackmon had five rebounds along with six 3-pointers, including three in a two-minute period in the third quarter that helped the Bulldogs erase a 23-18 halftime lead. Nasiyah Jernigan added 11 points and eight assists for Marbury.
Ann Tatum Baker led Briarwood Christian (21-12) with 17 points and four assists.
