PREP UPDATE: Trinity tennis wins McT Invite

BOYS TENNIS

Trinity 9, Prattville Christian 0

Trinity swept all six singles matches without allowing a point and did the same in doubles to secure a 9-0 win over Prattville Christian on Monday at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

Winning singles for Trinity were Samuel Treadwell beating Collier Connell at No 1, James Treadwell defeating Logan Wesch at No. 2, Trevor Wilson shutting out Brysen Pugh at No. 3, Grant Speagle beating Cole Young at No. 4, Charlie Franklin defeating Dalton Jones at No. 5 and Sawyer Speagle beating Noah Barker at No. 6.

The two teams also played additional sets in singles, with Trinity’s Hall Collett defeating Graham Till and the Wildcats’ Ridge Newell defeating Jonathan Stallings.

In doubles, Trinity’s Samuel and James Treadwell shut out Connell-Wesch at No. 1, Wilson and Grant Speagle beat Young-Pugh at No. 2 and Franklin and Sawyer Speagle defeated Till-Barker at No. 3.

The teams also played an additional match in doubles, with Collett-Newell defeating Jones-Stallings.

Trinity travels to 7A Auburn for a match on Tuesday before returning home to play Demopolis on Wednesday at Lagoon Park.

 

Trinity takes second place at McT Invite  

MOBILE -- The Trinity boys tennis team started spring break on March 15-16 by winning second place in the McGill Toolen Invitational tennis tournament in Mobile.

The Wildcats defeated John Carroll and Lafayette (La.) High before falling in a close 5-4 match to Hewitt-Trussville in the finals. The No. 1 doubles team of Samuel and James Treadwell continued their undefeated season by winning all three matches. James Treadwell continued his undefeated season at No. 2 singles as well, marking James’ fifth consecutive undefeated regular season in singles.

In the first match, Trinity defeated John Carroll 7-2 by winning five of the six singles matches, including James Treadwell at No. 2, Trevor Wilson at No. 3, Grant Speagle at No. 4, Charlie Franklin at No. 5 and Sawyer Speagle at No. 6.

In doubles, Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell won at No. 1 and Grant Speagle and Trevor Wilson won at No. 2.

Trinity edged Lafayette 5-4 by sweeping the doubles matches.   

In singles, James Treadwell won at No. 2 and Sawyer Speagle won at No. 6.

In doubles, Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell won at No. 1, Grant Speagle and Trevor Wilson won at No. 2 and Charlie Franklin and Sawyer Speagle won at No. 3.

In its final match, Trinity fell to Hewitt-Trussville 5-4, winning three singles matches but just one of the doubles.

In singles, Samuel Treadwell at No. 1, James Treadwell at No. 2 and Grant Speagle at No. 4 won, while the doubles team of Samuel and James Treadwell also won.

 

BASEBALL

Reeltown 12, Montgomery Academy 6

REELTOWN -- Parker Cook and Rick McBride each had three hits as part of a 12-hit attack but the Eagles fell to Reeltown 12-6 on Monday.

Cook drove in a pair of runs as the Eagles outhit the Rebels 12-10. Andrew Hosein had two hits and an RBI, while John Allen Jones, Luke Jones and Ware McCollum all had a hit. Will Hardin had a hit and an RBI.

Will Hardin got the start on the mound for the Eagles pitching 2.1 innings and surrendering five earned runs on five hits while striking out two. Luke Jones pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up four hits and three earned runs. Cook pitched an inning and held the Rebels to one hit despite Reeltown scoring two unearned runs.

Montgomery Academy (7-7) opens 3A Area 6 play at home on Thursday against St. James at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to the Trojans on Friday for a doubleheader.

Edgewood Academy 11, Lowndes Academy 7

ELMORE -- Edgewood Academy scored a pair of runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to secure an 11-7 win over the Rebels on Thursday.

Drew Allison went 2 for 4, scored a run and drove in three runs to lead the Wildcats. Cooper Freeman went 3 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs and Parker Shaw went 1 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs.

Cooper Dansby went 2 for 3, scored a run and drove in three runs for Lowndes. Ashton Yelder went 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles, scoring twice and driving in a run, while Jase Howard and Bradyn Stokes both went 2 for 4 and scored a run.

Logan Moomey picked up the win in relief of Price Snow, pitching the third and fourth innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out four. John Kujala allowed two hits in a third of an inning and Brock Whitt pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing one run, one hit and striking out six.

Clayton Hussey started for the Rebels and went 3.1 innings and was responsible for seven runs, three earned. Stokes pitched two-thirds of an inning and Dansby pitched the final two innings, allowing four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three.

 

Lee-Scott Academy 10, North Bay Haven Academy 0 (5)

AUBURN -- Garrett West went 1 for 3 with a double and drove in three runs while pitching a shutout on the mound to lead the Warriors to a 10-0 win over North Bay Haven Academy on Wednesday in a game limited to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

West went the distance, scattering five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Pelzer Reaves went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, Ty Jones went 1 for 1 and drove in a pair of runs and Lane Eddins went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

 

SOFTBALL

Auburn 4, Prattville 0

AUBURN -- Auburn shut out the Lions in the Auburn Round Robin on Saturday, defeating the Lions 4-0.

Grace Scrimpshire took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs, one earned, in four innings. Cadence Forester went 1 for 1 to lead the Lions at the plate.

Prattville (8-8) will return to action on Friday in the Northside tournament.

 

Prattville 6, Lauderdale County 5

AUBURN -- Kaytie Chandler went the final two innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out three to help the Lions to a 6-5 win over Lauderdale County in the Auburn Round Robin on Saturday.

Chandler also helped her cause at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Emma Moore started the game and pitched the first four innings, allowing four runs, one earned, while striking out one.

Jodie Gentry went 2 for 4 and drove in a run, Brooklyn Johnson went 1 for 3 and Grace Scrimpshire went 1 for 4 and delivered the walk-off hit by driving in the game-winning run for Prattville (8-7).

 

Prattville 3, Beulah 1

AUBURN -- Kaytie Chandler picked up the win in relief, throwing three innings of shutout ball while striking out eight in a 3-1 win over Beulah on the Auburn Round Robin.

Mady Cate Lindsey started the game for the Lions and surrendered one run on three hits while striking out four in the first four innings.

Jodie Gentry 3 for 4, Maddie Putteet went 1 for 3 and drove in a run and Addison Lee had a pair of RBIs as the Lions (7-7) rallied late for the victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 2, LAMP 0

Stott Blancas and Joe Reeves each scored a goal to lead the Knights to a hard-fought area win over the Golden Tigers at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

Juan Escalante assisted on one of the goals as the Knights (11-3) improved to 7-1 in 4A Area 2 play.

Catholic will return to action on April 9, playing LAMP at home for Senior Night.
