PRESS PICKS: It's getting late for football's chance to complete the schedule

At the moment, only one game has been postponed in SEC play this week. Ole Miss and Texas A&M is off the schedule with a landing date not decided.
Missouri and South Carolina is also in jeopardy, although it’s a go as of now.
But the problem is clear – we are running out of dates.
As Tom Hanks said as the Odyssey ascended in “Apollo 13,” the earth is getting a lot bigger in the window,” meaning we are closing in on the end of the season.
How much more can this season bleed out without it having a major impact on the final say in the College Football Playoff?
It’s time to try to answer that question and create a contingency plan. That probably means moving back the playoff, something the snobs in Pasadena (Rose Bowl) may not want to do.
Fine, forget them. Move the semifinal game somewhere else if they can’t play along. Besides, no one will be allowed in the Bowl to see it anyway. Ditto for the Sugar Bowl.
The other idea – add teams to the playoffs. Instead of guessing on these leagues that play five or six games, give it a better look by including the winner of the Pac 12 if – and that’s a big “if” – they have an undefeated champion.
Other leagues have expanded their playoffs – no reason college football can’t do the same, at least for a year.
It’s been a great year for local high school football. As it winds down, it’s fantastic to see the likes of Montgomery Academy, Alabama Christian, Catholic and Trinity still in the hunt for a state title. Good luck to all those teams.
