PRESS PICKS: Little fanfare after second week of CFP poll
STAFF REPORT
Round 2 of the playoff banter came and went this week without as much fanfare as in the past, probably due to the fact that teams in the Top 10 either lost or played so incredibly bad. How do you move Oregon past Alabama after their pedestrian win? Michigan just lost two weeks ago yet is now ahead of the team that beat them. Oklahoma didn’t play.
But the focus stays on Cincinnati, which moved up a spot. We made this prediction a few weeks ago…fruition will work its way towards the Bearcats since no team left on their schedule should hand them a loss while the rest of the Top 10 beats up on each other.
Could a 2-loss Texas A&M team jump them? Beating Alabama and Georgia (in the SEC Championship) gives them credence, a lot more than what Cincy has. But a win over Ole Miss is necessary for that to matter.
If Oklahoma wins out, the Sooners will be in the playoff. Undefeated Georgia will go to the playoff no matter what happens in the championship game.
At the moment, too much is at stake to try to figure all of this out. The way the season has gone anything is possible.
Yes,that includes a Group of 5 making the playoffs.
There is a new leader on the top of the panel with last year’s winner, Doug Amos, taking sole possession of first place.
